BTWH Frequently Asked Questions

2020.10.23 08:16 Killer_The_Cat BTWH Frequently Asked Questions

Gameplay
Q: When will the mod release?
A: We plan to release a demo set in the New England region first, before an initial release later. There are no firm release dates for either: we will announce them when we get closer to release. (If you would like to speed up this process, you should join the mod! :P)
Q: Is the rest of the world on the map?
A: The map only covers North America: Canada, the United States, Mexico, and portions of the Carribean and Central America.
Q: I noticed that Alaska and Hawaii aren’t on the map. Will they eventually be on the map?
A: In a later update, although that might not be on release.
Q: Will Canada/Mexico/the Rest of North America have content?
A: Yes, there are plans for the entire map to have content. This probably won’t happen in the initial release, however.
Q: Will there be a new tech tree?
A: Yes.
Q: Will this mod be more gameplay-focused (like Kaiserreich) or more narrative-focused (like TNO)?
A: This is primarily a narrative-based mod, perhaps even more so than TNO. However, that doesn’t mean we’re ignoring gameplay - we aim to design the story and gameplay in a way which compliment each other.
Q: How long does the mod last?
A: The mod starts on May 1st, 1969. It is planned to run until the mid-80s (provisionally, May 1st,1985.)
Lore
Q: Why is a civil war happening?
A: Check the initial Dev Diary. TLDR: A series of corrupt and reactionary presidents drive the civil rights movement underground, decentralizes the federal government, and lays the seeds for a military coup which destroys the foundation of American democracy.
Q: What is the Denver Government?
A: The Denver Government constitutes the remnants of the federal government that have retreated to their new base in Denver. It is one of the central factions in the mod.
Q: Where is (X historical figure) in the mod?
A: Wait and see, and make sure you’re watching the teasers on discord! Part of the fun of BTWH is seeing historical figures both obscure and renown within the context of a civil war.
Q: How do all these movements have so much support?
A: We use the 12x rule as a rough estimate- meaning that any radical organization has about twelve times their original number. The much more chaotic and violent political atmosphere of the BTWH timeline has led to a corresponding growth of support to militant left and right wing organizations. The average person is not necessarily more radical than our timeline - they are just more willing to accept violence as a means for social change.
Q: Why are the south and midwest different colours to the rest of the starting map?
A: They are part of the Governor’s Pact and Midwest Civil Defense Alliance, respectively, alliances designed to contain the uprisings facing their territories. Due to the immediate threat to the state governments, they are unable to act in complete accordance with the Denver Government. They still de-jure recognize their authority however.
Q: What are all of these red spots on the starting map?
A: These are the various revolutionary movements that exist at the start of the game, the:
A large variety of new organisations and revolts can show up dynamically later during the game, of course.
Q: What’s the difference between the new and old left?
A: The Old Left tends to be more skeptical of what is nowadays described as identity politics (feminism, black nationalism, gay rights, etc). Additionally, the New Left almost universally rejects reformism, tends to be skeptical towards the “United States” as an entity, and is highly devoted to the ideology of Mao Zedong and Jiang Qing.
Q: What’s the point of divergence (PoD) for this mod’s alternate history?
A: Hubert Humphrey is unable to deliver his renowned speech at the 1948 Democratic National Convention (in OTL), which leads to a split between southern and progressive factions within the party over civil rights. This results in a far stronger Progressive Party than in OTL, a loss for Truman to Dewey in the 1948 elections, and subsequent MacArthur-backed nuclear strikes on China and the DPRK in the Korean War.
Q: What is happening in Cuba?
A: During the Goldwater presidency (see Dev Diary I), a full-scale invasion of Cuba took place. Cuba starts under a US-aligned administration, but has an active insurgency.
Q: What is happening in St. Pierre and Miquelon? Will France have content?
A: At one point in development there was extensive content planned but the lore was judged to be too outlandish to incorporate - so unfortunately there is no French content.
Q: Who leads China in the mod?
A: Chairwoman Jiang Qing, the wife of Mao Zedong (who died in the atomic bombing of Beijing during the Korean War).
Q: Who leads the Soviet Union at start?
A: Nikita Khrushchev.
Q: Who leads the Denver Government at the start of the mod?
A: John W. McCormack, a Democratic politician who took over the presidency in the aftermath of McGovern’s resignation (see Dev Diary I).
Q: Who are the ‘Funny Sword People’ or ‘CSAL’?
A: The CSAL (The Covenant, the Sword, and the Arm of the Lord) are a Christian fundamentalist organisation that will feature in the mod.
Q: Are all the characters within the mod real people?
A: Yep! Every single person given a full name is a real person who lived within the time period. Some of them might be pretty obscure, however - there are quite a few leaders who don’t have wikipedia pages.
Team Structure
Q: Who is the lead dev? Who came up with this idea?
A: Laura (@anarchomastia on discord) is the lead dev of BTWH.
Q: Wait, is she that one-
A: Yes, she is that CHAZ person.
Q: How do I join the team?
A: You can apply as either a writer, a coder, or an artist using the dev application sheet!
Q: I applied but I never heard back!
A: We tend to onboard applicants based on our present needs. We often go back through older applications and ask if folks are still interested in working on the team - it’s all about if we have a specific project for you to get to work on!
Q: If I join the team, will I be able to implement (X) idea I had?
A: Woah there cowboy! New factions and lore isn’t implemented by individuals - this is a collaborative project, and so our lore and setup is ultimately collaborative too. Especially as a new team member, you won’t be able to implement all the pet projects you want - you’re gonna have to run things by our regional coordinator and lead developer. If you can make a case for it fitting within the theme, lore, and setting of the mod, it might just get a stamp of approval.
Another important thing to note: BTWH isn’t a memefest - it aims to be a relatively serious narrative-focused mod, and so anything implemented can’t just be for the memes - it has to be based on real life political movements and people! If you want to implement something super wacky to the mod, you should wait til release and make a submod!
Community
Q: What is a “yooper”?
A: Yoopers are the inhabitants of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (sometimes referred to as “Superior”). They have gained notoriety among the BTWH community due to their rather humorous flags and merchandise that publicize the area, often proclaiming “AMERICAN BY CHOICE, YOOPER BY DA GRACE OF GOD”. This has led to quite a few memes based off of these flags and “yooper culture” in general.
Q: ...Solanas?
A: Valerie Jean Solanas (1936-1988) was an American lesbian feminist and activist, most notable for writing the SCUM Manifesto and for her attempted murder of pop artist Andy Warhol in 1968. Her rather esoteric feminist beliefs (notably advocating the abolition of men through various means including eugenics and the medical altering of the mind) has lead to quite a few in-jokes about her and her ideology. She co-leads a radical feminist faction in NYC in the mod.
Q: Why are there so many trans people in the community? I’m not complaining, just, wow.
A: Yeah, we’re not sure either.

2020.10.21 06:52 Jamesbarros what to do till I can afford lessons?

Hi Everyone,
I started taking lessons a number of years ago, and right as I was about to graduate to the big hill for tandem lessons (after a lot of time on a Condor and a little time on a Falcon, as the Alpha was just coming out, to date when this was going on) But life got in the way and I had to step back.
A short while ago, because of a promise I made someone a long time ago, I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane with my friend, and while I have no intention of doing that again, once I was under fabric, it reminded me of how much I loved my little trips down Dockweiler beach with the Windsports crew here in Los Angeles, and I decided that come this tax return, I will go back and at least finish my Hang 2, and get my solo in off of the local mountain.
The problem is I'm pretty much broke till tax time, which means I have almost half a year to kill, and I'd rather kill it being productive than just torturing myself watching people fly kites I'll never own anyway. (I expect I'll end up on a Falcon 4, and I'll be pretty happy if I do)
I've been re-reading "Hang Gliding for Beginner Pilots" and having fun with my little anemometer trying to guess wind speeds, and torturing myself watching youtube videos of other people flying...
If you had very little money and plenty of time, what would you do to be productive and ensure you were best prepped to go back to the hill and start training in 5 months?
Thanks. =)

2020.10.20 00:52 431p Looking to come back to pc master race after 10 year absence

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
2 things, I want to play new games and I want to get into game development with unity3d. I already have a mbp for work.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
I am thinking about 1k then willing to go up for best bang for buck, maybe a maximum of 1500k
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
I am still contemplating buying one but since black friday is coming up the sales will influence my decision.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
everything including os+monitor+k/b+tower. I already have k+mb and a 4k work monitor but I need a separate gaming setup since those are laptops.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
ca - los angeles
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
prefer to buy all new
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
prefer not to if i dont have to
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I want to play games on high but not ultra high, I also want to get into game dev with unity3d so I believe a fast hdd is a super plus. I want snappy loading speeds when using unity.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
wifi
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
honestly I prefer small as possible because I have limited desk space. I have a 72 inch desk which seemed huge for me at first but I have 2 laptops + a 27 inch 4k monitor. If I setup another gaming desktop with another 4k monitor it will be SUPER cramped but I cant buy another desk since this ones new.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
whatever windows is popular these days, last one I ever used was w7
Extra info or particulars: Is there a good gaming monitor out there that has ~3 hdmi ports and 1 display port? that way I can use my new built PC on display port and hook up my other 2 work laptops to the hdmi port.. then I only have 1 monitor on my desk instead of 2 and maximize space.

2020.10.18 22:54 LauraVi 💎RC September Update Survey: the results.💎

💎RC September Update Survey: the results.💎
Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to our Reddit Community Survey! Let's find out what we all liked/disliked about the latest RC update.
------
💎First of all, which story was the most read this month? HS was the most read story in the app (insert surprised Pikachu face here) while the new-story-curiosity effect vaned for LOS, making its readership drop. LOW also suffered a surprise drop (hashtag underrated), and curiosity for SBR's new season meant slightly more readers for our dancing crew.
-- 97.2% of the respondents read Heaven's Secret (up from last month's 96%)
-- 94% read Dracula: a Love Story (on par with last month's 93.9%)
-- 93% read Chasing You (on par with last month's 92.8%)
-- 90% read Love from Outer Space (down from last month's 94.2%)
-- 87.6% read Legend of the Willow (down from last month's 90.3%)
-- 85.1% read Seduced by the Rhythm. (up from last month's 82.8%)
------
💎How popular was each update? We asked you to rate the new chapters giving a score between 1 and 5, where 1= I did not like it, 5= I loved it. Despite receiving the exact same score as last month, LOW ranked as second most liked update - although it's mostly because almost everything else dropped in rating.
-- Heaven's Secret: 4.4 (same score as last month, remains in first place)
-- Legend of the Willow: 4.2 (same score as last month, up from tied-third to second)
-- Dracula: a love story: 4.0 (slightly down from 4.3, drops from second to third)
-- Love from Outer Space: 3.4 (down from 3.9, stable in fourth)
-- Chasing You: 3.3 (big drop from 4.2, goes from tied-third to fifth)
-- Seduced by the rhythm: 2.9 (down from 3.4, stable in sixth)
------
.💎But here's the juicy stuff: which characters had the best and worst scenes in this update?
------

.⚠️Warning: plot spoilers for the September update are contained in this post from this point on. ⚠️

------
.💎The top 10 overall BEST scenes go to:
------
(1) Lucifer (HS) - 69.7% - At this point, having Lucifer taking part in any kind of poll is like watching Phelps swimming at the Olympics. You know he's gonna win, so you might as well take advantage of the lack of lines at the food stands and go get a pretzel or something. Of course everyone liked the sexy times in jail, despite the perplexing logistics. Of course everyone felt sorry when he got tied up like a stuffed chicken and nearly died at the hands of papa-dearest. And of course his heroics in battle and sad tree-burning predicament had us all in a tizzy. Moving on.
------
(2) Kazu (LOW) - 53.8% - Absence makes the heart grow fonder and after a few episodes without our favourite ninja hottie, his return left us all with butterflies in our stomach and badly brewed tea in our hands. They say that you can tell a man by the company he keeps, but not even Kazu's dubious association with random guy Satoshi has been able to put a damper on our love for him. Next time come alone, though? Hashtag new-fox-who-dis, hashtag you-could-have-brought-takao, hashtag i-am-not-cold-but-go-on.
------
(3) Present-day Vlad (DLS) - 43.2% - Vlad baby, what's going on with you? Do you need a hug? Oh, right, never mind. Our favourite sexy psychopath defied whatever curse is holding him back to ravish MC with all his might, but paid the price in full, and oh boy, that looked painful. Despite his rage-fuelled attack on an helpless dessert table, most of us forgave him the moment he felt us up with his brilliant mind at a random cat event. Hashtag party-like-its-1446.
------
(4) Masamune (LOW) - 33.3% - The first series of LOW went out with a bang (not literally) and despite a late start, the Ronin's charming personality, gorgeous face and mysterious splish-sploshing sounds from the bathroom made him shoot up the rankings at hypersonic speed. Of course we all needed help with our evening ablutions, and of course now our mind is right in the gutter where it belongs. Hashtag soap-emoji-eggplant-emoji-wink-emoji.
------
(5) Young Vlad (DLS) - 31.8% - This update was a clear Vladfest, with plenty of content featuring our favourite yet-unconfirmed-vampire both in the past and the present. Lale's sudden sexual awakening in the arms of a young dancing Vlad was a moment for the books - all despite the fact that he managed to outshine his previous Emo fringe with an even more questionable hairdo.
------
(6) Leo (DLS) - 31.3% - From his genuine and loving attention to the best ugly cat in the world, to sensuous dancing and general garden chillaxing, Leo is slowly-but-surely gaining more and more fans every update. But let's be honest, he could have been shovelling deer manure for the whole update and we would have still given him a ton of votes because, seriously, that black suit? Hashtag chefs-kiss.
------
(7) Fyr (HS) tied with the geography teacher (LOS) at 30.6%. The most shocking result of this survey must be that the most loved pet sidekick in the app and its emotionally gut-wrenching war scenes got the same amount of votes as a disillusioned guy in a Monday morning mood. And the fact that a random side character's lack of will to live spoke to all of us so much says something about the state of the world today, ngl. How long until someone campaigns to make this husk of a man into a LI? Hashtag dear-lord-no, hashtag id-rather-date-tony.
------
(8) Nosferatu, his black-cat friend and his lady relative (DLS) - 30.1% - We are all crazy cat people on this blessed day! Forget sexy times, forget adventure, drama or romance: all we want from RC is a cat in a dress! From cemetery escapades to a grumpy pageant queen, we clearly could not get enough of our favourite felines. Hashtag every-day-is-caturday, hashtag where-is-berdus-at-tho.
------
(9) Alex (CY) tied with Malbonte (HS) at 28.5%. Considering Alex was hardly in this update at all, we think most people voted for him more by default than because of actual merit. But he did drop the G(irlfriend) word for some of us, and still looked like a snack even in a way too tattered pyjamas (did he sleep in a bramble bush or something?), so we'll allow it. And what can we say about Malbonte? He has just appeared in his true form but might already be out to swipe Lucifer's crown for favourite bad boy in the app. Hashtag imma-steal-your-girls.
------
(10) Aslan (DLS) - 28.3% - RC's main supernatural story (that is turning slightly creepier than expected lately, ngl) steals the show once again grabbing another slot in the best scenes rankings. Aslan's military prowess and luscious long locks had us all craving for more, because let's face it, guys with long hair are hot, and even more if you are a 15th-century hormonal teen. Hashtag good-hair-dont-care.
------
https://preview.redd.it/qysus5160xt51.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=122a2d97dcfdec79daab8dddefd7c5c9bb206009
------
💎And the top 10 overall WORST scenes go to:
------
(1) Tony (SBR) - 43.8% - Yellow-wearing Tony has managed to keep hold of his ugly crown, and considering he's not the one who had an evil plan to murder half of heaven and hell this update, that's a pretty big feat. Kissing random women at a wedding can only be acceptable if you are very drunk and very single, and considering he was neither, we all voted for him to still top the baddies list.
------
(2) Molly (SBR) - 22% - The Molly debate is still going strong. Is the second most despised teenager in RC's history way too hated for her crimes? Are the two sisters just deserving of each other's pettiness? Is the sky blue? We will never know. Fact is, Tony's dastardliness is rubbing off on his sweetheart, so let's hope she'll drop him like a hot potato sooner rather than later. Hashtag baby-he-aint-worth-it.
------
(3) Fencio (HS) - 21.4% - What has a villain got to do to top the naughty rankings? Murdering three people, starting a war and resuscitating an ancient evil ain't it, apparently, since ol' Fencio here just landed himself a bronze. Maybe in the next update he'll manage a little more slaughter, horror and torment and get himself a better score. Hashtag my-fireplace-is-talking-to-me, hashtag i-hate-everyone-but-my-son, hashtag delete-this-immediately.
------
(4) Eve (CY) - 18.8% - We are honestly not sure what Eve did in this update to deserve such a bad rep, but maybe her karaoke skills were lacking? Or maybe she hasn't been forgiven yet for her bathroom-nipple-twisting shenanigans? Fact is, she scored higher than the literal Lord of Hell so we clearly missed something here. Hashtag mafia-bae.
------
(5) The paranoid neighbour (LOS) - 18% - We mods are mostly working from home these days, wearing our nightgown, slippers and tinfoil hat 24/7, so we feel personally attacked by this community's harsh judgement of this upstanding fella, who, shall we point out, had clearly nailed his assessment of the dangerous criminals who moved next door to his house. Hashtag i-am-calling-the-police, hashtag i-am-not-crazy-you-are-crazy, hashtag neighbourhood-watch-your-back.
------
(6) Present-day Vlad (DLS) - 17.7% - Clearly not everyone was charmed by the touch-me-touch-me-not shtick from our tormented Romanian castle-owner. A significant part of this community was not having any of it and thought that Vlad's random outburst of rage and destruction and slight emotional manipulation of MC were simply not on, landing him a spot in the baddies corner. Hashtag please-dont-fight-in-the-comments.
------
(7) Satan (HS) - 17.4% - The Lord of Hell cemented his reputation as worst-dad-ever when he nearly offed his own son without thinking about it twice. Luckily our MC turned out to be some sort of superpowered goddess herself, so she lamped him good and, for some players, got rid of the problem once and for all. Hashtag sorry-not-sorry, hashtag et-tu-dad, hashtag it-should-have-been-rebecca.
------
(8) Rebecca (HS) - 17.1% - Not even a full facelift changed the opinion of our community on this blonde-haired boss babe. She used and abused poor Fencio (who gets zero sympathy from us, but still), she all but told her daughter to go eat a cactus, she has shown no real feelings for anything or anyone apart from being a power-hungry shark... you know what, Becky, once again you deserve your spot on the naughty list.
------
(9) Jacob (LOS) - 16.8% - This guarded grump continues to prove unpopular in this community, as his lack of soft corners is not welcomed by the readers. At this point there's not much anyone can do to change the mind of the majority, but hopefully as the story progresses we'll see more pleasant sides of him. Hashtag whatever.
------
(10) Nosferatu, his black-cat friend and his lady relative (DLS) - 16.5% - To all those who voted for the cat gang as worst scenes of the update: do you also hate rainbows, unicorns and chocolate cake? DLS proves once again to be the most divisive story, since both one of its main LIs and main pet have landed themselves in hot water. Hashtag dracula-drama.
------
.💎And here are all the results, book by book:
------

.Seduced by the rhythm

.Brandon's frequent flier, billionaire, FBI shenanigans might have not gotten him a spot in the top 10, but at least he was the best of the bunch in SBR. Although, can we just very quickly point out that in the "best scenes" rankings, Tony got the exact same number of votes as Jo&Chris tear-jerking wedding? Hashtag just-saying.
https://preview.redd.it/kiz7kiyb0xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=188ff17b9cb8ee94dce60be386fb0cc61e0fa583
------

Chasing You

In the best scenes, Ellia is coming for Alex's crown fast! But it's also interesting to see how Alex, despite being the only CY character to make the overall best top-10, still ties with The Stranger when it comes to worst scenes. Hashtag you-better-watch-out.
https://preview.redd.it/y28j7odg0xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf306aaa8e1ae79807a06d5ad684eb675eef36c6
------

Heaven's Secret

That One Hot Archdemon narrowly missed out on the overall best top-10 and Fyr is really a very good dragon. Why Andy has earned such a high spot in the worst scenes is something we don't quite understand (higher than Malbonte who's the literal bad guy here?!) and it's clear how we were all touched, in either a positive or negative way, by Sammy's heartbreaking flashback. Hashtag i-am-not-crying-you-are-crying.
https://preview.redd.it/gxv8rkf1dxt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=b45881540eeb17ecb680af3f618b9157d6f99ad5
------

Legend of the willow

That Random Guy Satoshi No One Remembers tops the worst scenes for LOW, even ahead of the actual supernatural evil entity that is currently murdering people by torturing them in super gross ways. Maybe do not randomly grab a sleeping girl next time? Hashtag mei-should-have-bitten-harder, hashtag keep-your-ninja-hands-where-i-can-see-them, hashtag win-stupid-prizes.
https://preview.redd.it/61iuz05n0xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=e36ee837e761f358a4aff3d8d23a7e197d821834
------

Dracula: a love story

Present-day Vlad tops both the best and worst rankings, as mentioned already above. It's also a real shame that Sandra is not getting more love, but to be honest we hardly saw her at all in this update, so let's hope she is going to have more screen-time in future chapters. Hashtag sandra-deserves-better.
https://preview.redd.it/lhabx5hs0xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=e2a239a62c910034ea70d3d99eb869248549c20a
------

Love from outer space

We already highlighted the unexpected popularity of the geography teacher, but also worth of note are Agent Doe and Agent Wolf, who have just appeared and are already very popular. Hashtag mulder-and-scully-who.
https://preview.redd.it/xqnovb2x0xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=50643d2e850f692cf9e5f189e4652e703dde8fb7
------
And also ...
------
💎Is Tony from SBR still the worst? Most of us (72.2%) really want to yeet Tony and his mustard suit into a volcano, but a decent minority - that adds up to 27.8% - is either not hating him that much, or full-on loving him. Hashtag leave-tony-alone.
https://preview.redd.it/ijzjk44z0xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=f1de2743e41ead6a6125de1bdea3ffae9314275e
------
💎Who did you choose for Molly to "notice" in SBR? Most people could not care less, frankly, with 40.9% of the respondents not picking anyone because clearly Molly can make her own bad romantic decisions without her sister's help. Of those who picked a suitor, Henry was the most popular choice at 27.2%, followed by Zach at 17.9% and Andy at 14%.
------
.💎Who did you pick for drunken karaoke in CY? Ellia was the clear favourite for on-stage shenanigans, with 45.3% of the community picking him for sing and make out. The 37.9% of us decided to sing alone, and 16.8% of the respondents picked Eve.
------
.💎Did you kiss Christopher at the fair in CY? Most of us said no, but a good minority chose to lock lips with the redhead, consequences be damned!
https://preview.redd.it/xh92lvd31xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=340e1b3ebcf2c307a221850ab0036ca3e548980b
------
💎Which side did you take in the HS war? You would think that with all the love for Lucifer on this sub, the demon side would be the most popular... but surprisingly enough, the angel side won, although the balanced approach is very close behind.
https://preview.redd.it/dhefure71xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=0116822029a920c1c007d389e6e31a8a2871f259
------
💎Were you surprised by the identity of MC's killer and all around main baddie in HS? Most of us had somewhat of an idea of what was going on, but the plot twist was still a doozy for a lot of people.
https://preview.redd.it/83e0erg91xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=45c4c4b0389be2104b31bfac55f009d7cb888dfd
------
💎What did you think of the new faces for Rebecca and Andy in HS? Very split results here with a tied first place between those who liked the new redesign and those who did not really care, with those who hated it coming in third. Rebecca's new look seems to have been better received than Andy's.
https://preview.redd.it/oa12z9vc1xt51.png?width=1372&format=png&auto=webp&s=c3e1c01fa0deec6a66aebfe06cca27bec127cd8e

2020.10.17 01:33 Watchdogs66 Our "Drive to 245": The Twenty-Fifth Step (First Quarter)

The Drive To 245: Deprive the GOP In 25

In 2014 and with 234 House seats, the NRCC launched the “Drive to 245” campaign for the 2014 midterms, which focused on securing 245 seats for the 114th Congress. At the close of the midterms, they ended up picking up 13 seats, putting their new majority to 247 seats, 2 seats above the goal. For the majority of this election cycle, we had at least 234 House seats to start with, until a turncoat in disguise switched to the GOP in December 2019 (get fucked Jeff Van Drew) and we lost one of our districts in a May 2020 special election (get your act together Christy Smith). Despite these setbacks, getting to 245 seats in the next election is possible for us to achieve, if we are smart about it.

In late November 2018, I began by compiling an initial list of 25 potential districts that could give us the necessary gains for us to make the necessary net gain of 10 seats to fulfill our “Drive to 245” campaign goal. I then outlined the state representatives and state senators that we have on our side that live within (or at least represent a good portion of) the identified districts in the second step, which was split into parts one and two. These local officials are often our first line of offense when it comes to selecting appropriate candidates to flip GOP congressional districts, as these people often start out with significant amounts of name recognition (at least compared to most political novices), developed campaign infrastructures, and established donor networks to draw on. In the third step, I explored four different ways that these state representatives and state senators can help promising candidates build a solid platform to flip these 25 districts, even if we are not able to recruit any of these seasoned individuals themselves. I then proceeded to identify every individual local county Democratic organization within in each of these 25 districts to determine how much of a viable network exists towards flipping any of these districts, and whether any of them appear to be fledgling and underfunded, which was split into parts one, two, and three. I then proceeded to draw up rough battle plans to recruit the best candidates that are suitable towards making the necessary gains for the proposed 245 House seats, which I covered in parts one, two, and three. Since then, I updated my list of 25 districts to better reflect the developments that have occurred since November 2018, as well as the candidates from our end that have filed in those districts. After that, I covered updated game plans for the updated 25 districts, which was again split into parts one, two, and three. Another comprehensive update to the list was conducted in early July to account for the GOP retirements, lack of Democratic candidate recruitment for several districts, and other remarkable events that have occurred, all of which have been documented in said update. From there, more detailed plans were made that illustrated the overall status of the Democratic campaigns for each of these districts, which can be found in parts one, two, three, and four. These plans also highlighted which candidates appeared to have the most organized campaigns for each district, and which ones out of these strongest candidates needed the most assistance in terms of fundraising. Donation plans were also made that could sufficiently help out these struggling candidates, if every active user of this subreddit took part. After that, I provided a detailed plan for defending our 5 most endangered Democratic incumbents for this cycle. I next discussed the different methods that volunteers can help out a campaign, and what good campaigns should provide in such activities to optimize their voter outreach effectiveness, both of which can be found in parts one and two. In October 2019, I then provided another comprehensive review of the 25 districts that are the most likely to flip blue and the ideal strategies to accomplish that goal, which can be found in parts one, two, three, and four. After that, I provided an update on the overall status of our top 5 most endangered incumbents, and posted a rescue plan to help out the least financially stable campaigns, both of which can be found in this post. My next step provided day-by-day calendars highlighting volunteer events within the targeted 25 districts that helped participants develop vital Democratic infrastructure in those areas. These calendars, which ran from October 31 to January 15, can be found in parts one, two, three, and four. In late January, I gave a third update on the top 5 incumbents to defend this cycle. At the start of February 2020, I gave a fresh analysis of the 25 districts with the best chances of going blue, which are provided in parts one, two, three, and four. I then jumped to a day-by-day calendar of volunteer events of congressional campaigns operating throughout the 25 districts, which was originally planned to be released in four parts. However, the quickly deteriorating COVID-19 situation has forced this series to be suspended halfway through this step. The two calendars provided in this step, which ran from February 7 to March 19, can be found here and here. In April 2020, I provided an updated study of the 25 districts with the highest chances of flipping as well as the optimal strategies for each of these districts, which was delivered in parts one, two, three, and four. Later in May 2020, I provided another update on the top 5 incumbents to defend this cycle and their performances. I subsequently proceeded in June 2020 to provide a list of the competitive state house and state senate districts that overlapped one of the 30 congressional districts that this series targeted or defended, which was delivered in parts one, two, three, and four. Starting in late July 2020, I provided an updated perspective of the 25 districts with the highest chances of flipping as well as the optimal strategies for each of these districts, all of which were provided in parts one, two, three, and four. Shortly thereafter in August 2020, I provided a fresh update on the campaign status of the top 5 incumbents to defend this cycle. From there, I supplied a fresh view on the status of our campaigns in competitive state house and state senate districts that overlapped one of the 30 congressional districts that was targeted or defended by this series, which was given in parts one, two, three, and four. Next, I provided a calendar highlighting the important dates for the congressional campaigns operating within the 30 districts targeted and defended by this series.

This step will provide a final comprehensive review for each of the 25 districts that this series is targeting in the 2020 elections. As of now, the Democratic nominees have been selected for each target district. This review’s main objective is to gauge the progress of each nominee’s general election campaign.
Before this step proceeds to the official review, however, an important change to the list of 25 targeted districts will be announced, as well as the reasoning. Back in the beginning of the sixteenth step of this series, I announced that there would be no further changes to the list of target districts. The one exception that I gave to that statement was if any of the eventual Democratic nominees were found to have a serious scandal. This was fortunately not the case for any of the nominees running in the districts targeted in this series. The reasoning behind the announcement was that there was very little time to get newly added districts up to speed with the needed information, infrastructure, and grassroots support to provide them with realistic chances of success. I believed that my “expertise” would be better served by further expanding the knowledge that I have acquired in these 25 districts, as the great majority of the gains that are needed to get to 245 House seats in January 2021 would come from these districts.
However, several unique circumstances have occurred since then which have compelled me to make an exception to this announcement, which I will explain in the below sections. As with previous instances where changes to the target list were made, I've maintained the number of districts to a constant 25 to keep to the mnemonic listed in the title.

No longer on the list:
TX-31 (John Carter, R+10, Likely R): The Democratic nominee, Donna Imam, has posted some very lackluster fundraising numbers, with her total fundraising haul currently at $762,706. All of the other Democratic nominees in this series have cumulatively raised solid seven figure sums, which is generally the baseline for a winning congressional campaign to achieve. Several reports that I consulted have revealed that Donna Imam’s campaign is exceedingly disorganized. The infrastructure that MJ Hegar built in her 2018 run there is not getting translated to Donna Imam, since the Senate race against John Cornyn is getting all of the political oxygen there. Also, several Democratic operatives in TX-31 are frustrated with Donna Imam’s erratic campaign decisions, lack of steady communication channels, and inconsistent messaging. They have complained about the campaign’s substandard voter outreach efforts, social media handling, and participation in key local organizations. Several of them have decided to triage this district and take their efforts to TX-10 and TX-21. The district that I will be adding to replace TX-31 needs more of our attention and support at present at once, and I do not think that there will be too many objections to this late change.
New districts added to the list:
CA-25 (Mike Garcia, EVEN, Tossup): There has been a lot of criticism and frustration directed at Christy Smith, the Democratic nominee for this district, as well as the Los Angeles County Democrats and Ventura County Democrats for their poor organizational efforts. I provided a litany of the mistakes which were made in the special election, and caused us to lose a ton a momentum that we painstakingly built since the 2018 midterm elections. Unfortunately, several months of deep diving in this district have revealed that not all of these problems have been resolved as of now. Christy Smith is viewed as damaged goods among a good number of Democratic donors and operatives because of the magnitude of her loss in a district that went for Clinton by 6.7 points in 2016. She was significantly outraised by Mike Garcia in the quarterly reports that have been released since the special election, and the local organizational groups, especially the Los Angeles County Democrats and the Ventura County Democrats, are still operating at substandard levels. Because of all of this, Christy Smith is still running behind Mike Garcia in the polls. Unless Christy Smith receives additional assistance and coordination, which adding this district to the series’ target list will help provide, we will lose this district in November as well.

So now that the change to the list has been announced and explained, this step will now begin the final comprehensive review for the 25 districts that are currently on this series’ target list. During the months that have transpired from the series’ last comprehensive review, excellent overall progress has been made in the target districts, which currently cover regions located throughout fifteen states. These districts are sorted by state, then ordered by priority, which is roughly based on factors such as whether there is an important up-ballot statewide race (Presidential or Senate) to support, the overall flippability of the districts in question, how soon within the 2020 cycle Democratic organization began within these relevant areas, and the overall quality of the Democratic nominees. Given the overall length of these strategies, this step will be split into four quarters.
In the first quarter of this step, game plans will be elaborated for districts located in Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. For each district, the nominee’s campaign website, the amount of money he or she has raised so far according to the 2020 Q3 reports, and their campaign donation page will be listed. The fundraising numbers of the GOP opponent and an analysis of the Democratic nominee’s campaign will also be provided.
Some nominees are indicated with a minus or a plus, which indicates the overall quality of their campaign websites according to criteria that was listed in the second half of the eleventh step of this series. If a hash symbol (#) is indicated next to a candidate’s fundraising haul, it means that the figure was taken from the raw 2020 Q3 electronic filings for the candidate’s campaign committee. Fundraising figures from raw filings are not always up to date, meaning that they should be treated with caution. All districts listed on this post have their PVI and the bluest rating given by the political pundits at the time of this writing.

GA-07 (OPEN, R+9, Lean D):
Democratic Nominee: Carolyn Bourdeaux (+) Fundraising Numbers: $4,169,721 Campaign Website: https://www.carolyn4congress.com/ Donation Page: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/carolyn_website
GOP Fundraising Numbers: Richard McCormick: $2,168,122
Carolyn Bourdeaux continues to raise an impressive amount of money for her second run and is very well-positioned to flip the district. Her website is also well organized with respect to recruiting volunteers, especially for those wishing to participate in canvassing and phone banks. The most recent polling shows Carolyn Bourdeaux slightly leading in the polls against her opponent, Richard McCormick, which is another good sign. This district is an important one for us, since it is not only one of our most likely pick-ups, but also helps boosts Democratic turnout up the ballot for the two Senate races that are taking place this cycle, as well as helping us put Georgia in the presidential blue column for the first time since 1992!
MI-03 (OPEN, R+6, Tossup):
Democratic Nominee: Hillary Scholten (+) Fundraising Numbers: $2,510,892 Campaign Website: https://www.hillaryscholten.com/ Donation Page: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/helphillary
GOP Fundraising Numbers: Peter Meijer: $2,664,444 (#)
Hillary Scholten is definitely getting some serious fundraising strength and has continued to build up momentum over the past several months. Her campaign is up to the point that it can be truly competitive with that of her GOP opponent, Peter Meijer, although she is currently trailing him in the latest polling. Definitely consider supporting Hillary Scholten’s campaign, as we need the turnout boost from a traditionally conservative area to help improve our chance of winning the Presidential and Senate races there. Organizational efforts should concentrate towards Ionia and Montcalm Counties, as the local Democratic Party counties there are underfunded and could use some support from the grassroots.
MI-06 (Fred Upton, R+4, Lean R):
Democratic Nominee: Jon Hoadley (+) Fundraising Numbers: $2,425,505 Campaign Website: https://jonhoadley.com/ Donation Page: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/website-form
GOP Fundraising Numbers: Fred Upton: $3,028,491 (#)
Jon Hoadley is a fairly good candidate, as he is a current State Representative and has posted solid fundraising numbers. He also has a very well designed website for attracting and recruiting volunteers. However, his ground game, get-out-the-vote operations, and name recognition still needs work, as his performance in the Democratic primary was rather underwhelming. He is also trailing the GOP incumbent for this district, Fred Upton, by a considerable amount in the latest polls. According to recent reports, Democratic efforts in St. Joseph County have improved, with the Democratic county party there being much more funded and developed than it was in December 2018. This is a good thing, as we need every boost that we can get in Michigan for the Presidential and Senate races there.
PA-01 (Brian Fitzpatrick, R+1, Lean R):
Democratic Nominee: Christina Finello (+) Fundraising Numbers: $1,425,176 Campaign Website: https://www.finelloforcongress.com/ Donation Page: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/christina-finello
GOP Fundraising Numbers: Brian Fitzpatrick: $3,780,911 (#)
We are working behind the eight ball for this district due to the chaos of several Democratic candidates dropping out of the race earlier in the cycle. Christina Finello’s main disadvantage in her campaign against the GOP incumbent, Brian Fitzpatrick, is of course the fundraising gap. Fortunately, Christina Finello’s campaign has narrowed the gap in the past several months, as it managed to outraise Brian Fitzpatrick’s campaign in the Q3 period. However, she is still trailing Brian Fitzpatrick by a noticable margin in the latest polls. Adding to the district’s strategic importance is that PA-01 is located in a crucial area for turning Pennsylvania back to blue in the 2020 presidential election.
PA-10 (Scott Perry, R+6, Tossup):
Democratic Nominee: Eugene DePasquale (+) Fundraising Numbers: $3,345,492 Campaign Website: https://eugeneforcongress.com/ Donation Page: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/depasquale-for-pa-1
GOP Fundraising Numbers: Scott Perry: $3,237,416 (#)
The Democratic nominee, Eugene DePasquale, is now leading the GOP incumbent, Scott Perry, in the cumulative fundraising and the polling departments. In order for this district to get to the Lean D category (which I believe that it has a real shot of reaching by the end of this month), Eugene DePasquale needs to ramp up volunteer efforts in Dauphin County, as that is where he posted his weakest numbers in the June primary. Another reason why PA-10 should be front and center of our radars is that the district itself another crucial area that we need to close the GOP margins in order to turn Pennsylvania back to blue in 2020.

And thus we come the end of this step's first quarter. The second quarter will go over the best strategies to follow for districts situated in Texas, Ohio, New York, and Virginia. Then, the third quarter will describe ideal procedures for flipping target districts in Illinois, Florida, Indiana, and California. After that, the final quarter will cover optimized tactics for districts within New Jersey, Colorado, Nebraska, and Montana. So stay tuned! Any corrections or comments are welcome.

Intro; December 18, 2019. Less than Two Weeks Shy Of The 2020s.
That Wednesday Evening, 23-year-old Cameron Jack Sage, was happily driving around The Niagara Region in his Cement Truck, nicknamed The CT-1995, to which Sage has owned since 2012-12-19, His 17th birthday.
After just getting off work from his 9-5 shift, and preparing for his 24th birthday that night, Sage went over to The New Jersey Store, to get a New Jersey.
He then took a Blue XL Tom Brady Pats Jersey to the register.
The Cashier said, "That'll be $144.75!", Sage then gave The Cashier 145 bucks, then he was given a quarterback.
"Thank You for the quarterback," said Sage as he walked out of The New Jersey Store in his New Tom Brady Pats Jersey, grinning from ear to ear.
Sage then drove over to his Local Liquor Store next. While waiting in line, he realized he left his wallet in his Cement Truck.
Anyone who appeared to be under the age of 25, must provide a valid form of government ID, with their valid date-of-birth.
The Liquor Store Cashier, who looked like she was 12, was also wearing a #12 Tom Brady Jersey, but for The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, predicting that Tom would be traded away to Tampa come springtime.
Next, It was Sage's Turn in line, He walked up to the front counter and said, "May I Get 9 Corona Tallboys Please".
Sage wasn't even ID'd anyway cause The Cashier thought he looked like he was fucking 50!
The total came out to 20 bucks flat, but instead of paying just simply 20, Sage willingly paid an extra 20 cents, now totaling $20.20 for his Corona's,
"Thank You For The Quarterback!" laughed Sage.
"Fuck You." replied The Cashier in her Tom Brady Buc Jersey.
Sage laughed, then just as he was walking out the exit, The Cashier called out to him "Pats Suck!".
Then Sage went to his Local Grocery Store and got 9 cans of Premium Mom's Spaghetti Brand Ravioli.
The special was, buy 9 or more cans at $1.45 each, instead of $4.20 each.
Totaling $13.05 instead of $37.80 for all 9 cans.
At The Checkout, Sage paid $13.10, then was given a Nickel back just as The Chorus of This Is How You Remind Me was playing over the Grocery Store's P-A, and that sure-fired him up.
Now with his Pats Jersey, 9 Tallboys of Corona, and 9 cans of Ravioli. Sage was all set for his 24th birthday.
Sage was driving his Cement Truck east-bound on Clarence Street, through Downtown Port Colborne, approaching Welland Canal Bridge No 21. Also playing Nickelback's Too Bad over the Radio.
Suddenly, Sage was cut off by a 1930 Green Ford Model-A, who very rudely pulled out right in front of Sage, forcing him to slam on his brakes, or else He would have rear-ended the cement heads, as they were doing 23kph on a 50kph city street, and nobody likes you when you're doing 23kph on a 50kph city street.
The Driver, 89-year-old Jack Franck, and his life-long best-friend, 89-year-old Jim O'Brien, were just out for a drive, looking for a good time, and you're never too old to look for a good time.
The current time was 7: 29 pm (19:29 in 24 hour time).
Suddenly, A 1929 Red Rolls Royce came flying down Clarence Street eastbound through downtown Port Colborne towards the bridge at a ridiculously fast speed.
The Driver, 90-year-old Dane Whitehall, and his Wife, 90-year-old Jackie Kennedy, both high on speed, doing 105kph, on a 50kph city street, and playing Turn Down For What at full blast over the radio.
Then Dane ran the red light, smashed through the north-western road-gate, raced across the bridge, smashed through the south-eastern road-gate, and drove off, right before the bridge was raised into the dark night for an approaching ship.
Sage, along with the two 89-year-old’s in front of him, were all stuck, and shit out of luck, as The 90-Year-Old Superstructure growled, then roared, as thousands of tons of steel were raised to the top for a passing ship in The Welland Canal, Sage then cracked his first Rona and crushed it.
Jim and Jack were also Crushing some Ronas too, While they were waiting together in their Ford.
The approaching Ship was The Jack Fitzgerald, A ship from The 95 Shipping Company, making its final run of the season, delivering a full-load of last-week Christmas Gifts, as Christmas Day, was the following Wednesday.
The Fitzgerald was delivering plenty of Buzz Light-Year and Woody Merchandise Toys for all the good girls and boys at the front, and tons of Jack Daniels and Viagra for all the naughty adults at the back.
Jim and Jack were also Jamming Out to Crank That by Souja Boy, Jack not only memorized most of the lyrics, but was also accurately harmonizing them as well, as he happily sang-along.
Jack: “Ahhhhhhhhh Me!”
Jim: No ya fucking cement head, It’s “Ahhhhhhhh You!”
Jack: Yeah, that’s what I just said, Ahhhhhhhhh Me!
Sage was jamming out to some Nickelback in his Cement Truck, directly behind Jim and Jack in their Ford.
The Ship was finally under Bridge 21 at 19:59, which is unusually slow considering the bridge was raised at 19:29, (A Half-Hour).
Then 21 minutes later, The ship finally cleared Bridge 21 at 20:20, then the Bridge broke down in it's raised position and got stuck. Then Sage finished off the rest of his 9 Ronas, and also finished off all 9 cans of Ravioli, then Sage let out a 105 second burp, (1 minute and 45 seconds) then he had a long-ass fart of the same duration.
Then Sage exhaled, “Ahhh, now That’s better”.
At 21:14, after An Hour and 45 minutes (105 minutes), The Bridge finally lowered again, then the road-gates raised, and the red light turned green. Then Sage cautiously drove across The Bridge.
Then 15 minutes later, at 21:29, Sage was driving northbound on Hwy 1 40 in Port Colborne, heading towards Welland.
Meanwhile, An Undercover Ontario Provincial Sophomore Police Officer, 24-year-old Bessey Bowman, was patrolling Hwy 1 40 at that time, sitting at the precise, and exact midpoint between Bridge 17 and Bridge 21.
Sage didn't even see her, and She Clocked him doing 140kph on Hwy 1 40 in his Cement Truck.
Bowman then started up her Undercover Police Cruiser, then chased after Sage, as he could then see her blue and red lights flashing in his rear-view mirror, rapidly approaching Him.
Sage, who was 9 Corona tallboys deep, and 9 Cans of Ravioli even deeper, knew He was fucked!
Instead of pulling over, Sage dipped, peeling off as He accelerated down Hwy 1 40, shouting "Fuck The Police!".
Then Bowman immediately chased after Sage, shouting "Fuck Cement Truck Drivers!".
Sage flew down Hwy 1 40, as well as Hwy 4-O-6 through Thorold, into Saint Catharines.
Bowman continued chasing Sage east-bound on Queenston Street, keeping her safe two-second distance behind him, heading towards Welland Canal Bridge No 4. Better known as The Homer Simpson Bridge.
The Bridge was still raised for a passing ship, then had only just begun lowering back down to the roadway level.
Sage, negatively influenced by what he witnessed earlier, went from doing 105kph, and floored it up to 145kph.
Then he ran the red light, smashed through the south-western road-gate, going airborne over The Welland Canal, then two seconds later, Bowman also cleared the gap no problem.
Sage then smashed through the south-eastern road-gate, now on The Niagara-On-The-Lake side of the bridge.
Then Sage made a U-turn, and drove back across The Bridge, which was now fully lowered, but the light was still red, and the road-gates had not been raised just yet.
Sage ran the red light, again, then smashed through the north-eastern, and north-western road-gates, leaving The Homer Simpson Bridge with no road-gates at all.
Then a few minutes later, Sage was driving Southwest down Glendale Ave., approaching a Railroad Crossing.
Suddenly, The lights began flashing red, alternating back-and-forth, and then the road-gates lowered, then a Loud Train Horn could be heard sounding identical to that of The Los Angeles Kings 2011-2012 Goal Horn.
The Train, better known as The Wolf Spider Express, was doing its top speed of 145kph, carrying a full load of passengers, from Saint Catharines, bound for Niagara Falls.
Sage, originally doing 105kph, accelerated to 145kph, and for the fifth time, smashed through yet another lowered road-gate, and The Wolf Spider Express Smoked Sage in His Cement Truck, to which then got Wrecked, and thrown Up-Side-Down, and away from the tracks, into a nearby ditch.
Bowman, wasting no time, pulled up at a safe distance, hopped out of her cruiser, sprinted over to Sage’s Cab, shattered the entire window with one single punch, then She quickly yanked Sage out of the Cabs drivers-side door-window just in time, before The Entire Cement Truck was entirely engulfed in flames.
Then Bowman sprinted while carrying Sage in her arms, safely away from the fire. Then Sage's Cement Truck blew-up.
Sage: No! Not my CT-1995!
Bowman: Fuck your Cement Truck!
Bowman then set Sage down, who was not only conscious, but remarkably stable.
Then Officer Bowman would ask Sage a series of questions:
Bowman: Can you tell me your name?
Sage: I'm Cameron Jack Sage
Bowman: When's your Date-Of-Birth Buddy?
Sage: December 19, 1995., I'm originally from Jersey City.
Bowman: I don't give a fuck where you're from, how many drinks did you have tonight?
Sage: Only 9 Corona Tallboys, more than 8 but less than 10.
Bowman: You drank 9, Tallboys, of Corona? Then go for a drive, shit-faced, in your Goddamn Cement Truck? You fucking cement head!
Sage: Your insults are not necessary here Mam.
Bowman: Yeah well, this breathalyzer test is.
Sage: Fuck.
Bowman would then pull out her breathalyzer, then stuck that shit right into Sage's Mouth, who blew a BAC of 0.32, he was fucked.
Despite Sage being 6 feet tall, and weighing 180lbs. He still significantly exceeded the legal limit.
Sage, 23, was then arrested for Drunk Driving at 10:10 pm, in Saint Catharines Ontario, with a court hearing The Following Morning.
The Following Morning, Bowman Brought some Mcdonald's Breakfast to Sage’s cell. Because it was his birthday, Officer Bowman was a Sport and She even slipped some Jack Daniel's and Viagra into Sage’s Coffee.
Then Sage was put into the back of a Police Van, with 4 other criminals, transferring all 5 of them from The Police Station, over to The Court House.
Cameron Sage, 24, was Convicted of Drunk Driving on 2019-12-19, Originally going to be sentenced 290 Days of house arrest, effective until Sunday 2020-10-04. However, Sage’s sentence was reduced, from 290 days, to 145 days, making his House Arrest End Date, Tuesday 2020-05-12, which would’ve been George Carlin’s 83rd Birthday.
Because Bowman's Step-Brother, Cameron Jefferson, felt bad for Sage, and also even worse for what happened to his Cement Truck. Jefferson was a sport and decided to bless Sage up with An 18-Wheeler, Tractor-Trailer Truck-Driving Job, for His extremely successful Canned Pasta Product Company, Better Known as Mom's Spaghetti.
After Hiring Sage, and setting him up with his very own Mansion-Sized House, located along Niagara Parkway immediately Southeast in Niagara Falls, Jefferson would then tell the tale of His true story to Sage.
Jefferson explained to Sage, that both He, along with his Foster Sister Bessey, were delivered just 10 days apart, Jefferson on Monday 1995-07-31, and Bowman on Thursday 1995-08-10.
They were both born not only in the same room, but also the same precise and exact spot that Marshall Mathers (Eminem) himself was born 22 years prior, on Tuesday 1972-10-17.
The Doctor who delivered them both, wrote down both of their time of births as, “I don’t give a shit”, as they were both born in broad fucking daylight.
Unfortunately for Both Him and his Foster-Sister, Both of their parents had teamed up together as a double-pair like Bonnie and Clyde, in a large bank robbery spree across The US State of Missouri. From August 1995, until December 1999.
In January of 2000, just two weeks following both of their parents' arrest, they were adopted, and immigrated to Port Colborne Ontario as Foster Children.
Both Jefferson and Bowman dearly missed not only their Mom's in Prison, but also their Mom’s Spaghetti, which were both their favourite meals as kids.
Both Jefferson and Bowman, can recall vivid memories from their childhoods, back in the 19 hundreds, of how awesome their Mom's Spaghetti really was, even remembering how awesome their Mom's Mom's Spaghetti was too (Grandma's Spaghetti).
Despite also Immigrating to Port Colborne Ontario at The Turn Of The Millennium, Rosemary and Sage's Situation was very different from that of Jefferson and Bowman's.
Back when Sage was living in Jersey City New Jersey, from 1995, to 1999, Sage's parents absolutely resented him. Then on 1999-12-25, When Sage was age 4, he got the boot, Literally.
Sage's Mom, who honestly just had enough of his shit, punted him off their Front Lawn on Christmas Morning, directly through the living-room window of The Next-Door Neighbors, The Rosemary Family, Who would then generously adopt Sage from that point on.
Then Two Weeks Later, in a different millennium, Rosemary and Sage also moved to Port Colborne Ontario.

Since

Blood, guts and bone shards blanketed the surfaces of the waiting room, making it look like the inside of an unwashed jar of strawberry jam. My wife was gone. Every woman in the room was gone. The space behind the reception desk stood eerily empty. The television in the corner was showing the splattered lens of a camera that a hand suddenly wiped clean—its burst of motion a shock to the prevailing stillness—to reveal the peaceful image of a Los Angeles street in which bloodied men and boys stood frozen, startled…
I was too numb to speak.
Someone unlocked the hospital doors but nobody entered.
The waiting room smelled like an abattoir.
My clothes smelled like an abattoir.
I walked toward the doors, opened them with my hip and continued into the morning sunlight. I half expected shit to rain down from the skies. If I had a razor blade in my pocket I would have slit my wrists, but all I had was my wallet, my car keys and my phone. Sliding my fingers over the keys reminded me how dull they were. I didn’t want to drive. I didn’t want anything, but if I had to do something I would walk. I stepped on the heel of one shoe with the toe of another and slid my shoe off. The other one I pulled off with my hand. I wasn’t wearing socks. I hadn’t had enough time to put them on. I threw the shoes away. I wanted to walk until my feet hurt so much that I couldn’t walk anymore.
I put one foot in front of the other all the way back to my apartment building, waited for the elevator, and took it to my floor. In the hall, I passed a man wearing clean summer clothes. He didn’t give my bloody ones a second glance. I nodded to him, he nodded back, and I unlocked the door to my apartment and walked in. My feet left footprints on the linoleum. A dark, drying stain in the small space between the fridge and the kitchen wall was all that was left of Pillow. She’d squeezed in and died alone. I took out a mop and rotely removed the stain. Then I took off my clothes, flung them on the bed, which was as unmade as when we left it, took a shower and laid down on the crumpled sheets beside the only pieces of my wife that I had left. My sleep smelled like an abattoir.
I awoke to a world without women.
I rolled off the bed into sore thighs and guilt, got up to emptiness that echoed the slightest noise, and left my wife’s clothes on the sheets without thinking that eventually I’d have to pack them into a plastic bag and slide them down the garbage chute. I felt magnified and hollow. In the kitchen, I used the stove top as a table because the actual table had my wife’s tablet on it, and spilled instant coffee. What I didn’t spill I drank in a few gulps, the way I used to drink ice cold milk as a boy. I stood in front of the living room window for a while before realizing I was naked, then realizing that it didn’t matter because men changed in front of each other at the pool and peed next to one another into urinals in public restrooms, and there weren’t any women to hide from, no one to offend. The world, I told myself, was now a sprawling men’s pisser, so I slammed the window open and pissed.
I wanted to call someone—to tell them that my wife was dead, because that’s a duty owed by the living—but whom could I call: her sister, her parents? Her sister was dead. Her father had a dead wife and two dead daughters. There was nothing to say. Everyone knew. I called my wife’s father anyway. Was he still my father-in-law now that I was a widower? He didn’t accept the connection. Widower: a word loses all but historical meaning when there are no alternatives. If all animals were dogs, we’d purge one of those words from our vocabulary. We were all widowers. It was synonymous with man. I switched on the television and stared, crying, at a montage of photographs showing the bloody landscapes of cities, hospitals, retirement homes, schools and churches, all under the tasteless headline: “International Pop”. Would we clean it up, these remnants of the people we loved? Could we even use the same buildings, knowing what had happened in them? The illusion of practical thinking pushed my feeling of emptiness away. I missed arms wrapping around me from behind while I stared through rain streaked windows. I missed barking and a wagging tail that hit my leg whenever I was standing too close. Happiness seemed impossible. I called Bakshi because I needed confirmation that I still had a voice. “They’re the lucky ones,” he said right after I’d introduced myself. “They’re out. We’re the fools still locked in, and now we’re all alone.”
For three weeks, I expected my wife to show up at the apartment door. I removed her clothes from the bed and stuffed them into a garbage bag, but kept the garbage bag in the small space between the fridge and the kitchen wall. I probably would have kept a dead body in the freezer if I had one and it fit. As a city and as a world, those were grim, disorganized weeks for us. Nobody worked. I don’t know what we did. Sat around and drank, smoked. And we called each other, often out of the blue. Every day, I received a call from someone I knew but hadn’t spoken to in years. The conversations all followed a pattern. There was no catching up and no explanation of lost time, just a question like “How are you holding up?” followed by a thoughtless answer (“Fine, I guess. And you?”) followed by an exchange of details about the women we’d lost. Mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends, friends, cousins, aunts, teachers, students, co-workers. We talked about the colour of their hair, their senses of humour, their favourite movies. We said nothing about ourselves, choosing instead to inhabit the personas of those whom we’d loved. In the hallway, I would put on my wife’s coats but never look at myself in the mirror. I wore her winter hats in the middle of July. Facebook became a graveyard, with the gender field separating the mourners from the dead.
The World Health Organization issued a communique stating that based on the available data it was reasonable to assume that all the women in the world were dead, but it called for any woman still alive to come forward immediately. The language of the communique was as sterile as the Earth. Nobody came forward. The World Wildlife Fund created an inventory of all mammalian species that listed in ascending order how long each species would exist. Humans were on the bottom. Both the World Health Organization and the World Wildlife Fund predicted that unless significant technological progress occurred in the field of fertility within the next fifty years, the last human, a theoretical boy named Philip born into a theoretical developed country on March 26, 2025, would die in 93 years. On the day of his death, Philip would be the last remaining mammal—although not necessarily animal—on Earth. No organization or government has ever officially stated that July 4, 2025, was the most destructive day in recorded history, on the morning of which, Eastern Time, four billion out of a total of eight billion people ceased to exist as anything more than memories. What killed them was neither an act of war nor an act of terrorism. Neither was it human negligence. There was no one to blame and no one to prosecute. In the western countries, where the majority of people no longer believed in any religion, we could not even call it an act of God. So we responded by calling it nothing at all.
And, like nothing, our lives persisted. We ate, we slept and we adapted. After the first wave of suicides ended, we hosed off what the rain hadn’t already washed away and began to reorganize the systems on which our societies ran. It was a challenge tempered only slightly in countries where women had not made up a significant portion of the workforce. We held new elections, formed me boards of directors and slowed down the assembly lines and bus schedules to make it possible for our communities to keep running. There was less food in the supermarkets, but we also needed less food. Instead of two trains we ran one, but one sufficed. I don’t remember the day when I finally took the black garbage bag from its resting place and walked it to the chute. “How are you holding up?” a male voice would say on the street. “Fine, I guess. And you?” I’d answer. ##!! wrote a piece of Python code to predict the box office profitability of new movies, in which real actors played alongside computer-generated actresses. The code was only partially successful. Because while it did accurately predict the success of new movies in relation to one other, it failed to include the overwhelming popularity of re-releases of films from the past—films starring Bette Davis, Giulietta Masina, Meryl Streep: women who at least on screen were still flesh and blood. Theatres played retrospectives. On Amazon, books by female authors topped the charts. Sales of albums by women vocalists surged. We thirsted for another sex. I watched, read and listened like everyone else, and in between I cherished any media on which I found images or recordings of my wife. I was angry for not having made more. I looked at the same photos and watched the same clips over and over again. I memorized my wife’s Facebook timeline and tagged all her Tweets by date, theme and my own rating. When I went out, I would talk to the air as if she was walking beside me, sometimes quoting her actual words as answers to my questions and sometimes inventing my own as if she was a beloved character in an imagined novel. When people looked at me like I was crazy, I didn’t care. I wasn’t the only one. But, more importantly, my wife meant more to me than they did. I remembered times when we’d stroll through the park or down downtown sidewalks and I would be too ashamed to kiss her in the presence of strangers. Now, I would tell her that I love her in the densest crowd. I would ask her whether I should buy ketchup or mustard in the condiments aisle. She helped me pick out my clothes in the morning. She convinced me to eat healthy and exercise.
In November, I was in Bakshi’s apartment for the first time, waiting for a pizza delivery boy, when one of Bakshi’s friends who was browsing Reddit told us that the Tribe of Akna was starting a Kickstarter campaign in an attempt to buy the Republic of Suriname, rename it Xibalba and close its borders for all except the enlightened. Xibalba would have no laws, Salvador Abaroa said in a message on the site. He was banging his gong as he did. Everything would be legal, and anyone who pledged $100 would receive a two-week visa to this new "Mayan Buddhist Eden". If you pledged over $10,000, you would receive citizenship. “Everything in life is destroyed by energy,” Abaroa said. “But let the energy enlighten you before it consumes your body. Xibalba is finite life unbound.” Bakshi’s phone buzzed. The pizza boy had sent an email. He couldn’t get upstairs, so Bakshi and I took the elevator to the building’s front entrance. The boy’s face was so white that I saw it as soon as the elevator doors slid open. Walking closer, I saw that he was powdered. His cheeks were also rouged, and he was wearing cranberry coloured lipstick, a Marilyn Monroe wig and a short black skirt. Compared to his face, his thin legs looked like incongruously dark popsicle sticks. Bakshi paid for the pizza and added another five dollars for the tip. The boy batted his fake eyelashes and asked if maybe he could do something to earn a little more. “What do you mean?” I asked. “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe I could come upstairs and clean the place up a little. You two live alone?” Bakshi passed me the two pizza boxes—They felt hot in my hands.—and dug around in his wallet. “It’s not just the two of us,” I said. The boy smiled. “That’s OK. I’ve done parties before if that’s what you’re into.” I saw the reaction on Bakshi’s face, and I saw the boy’s grotesque caricature of a woman. “There’s condoms and lube in the car,” the boy said, pointing to a sedan with a pizza spray-painted across its side parked by the curb. “My boss says I can take up to two hours but it’s not like he uses a stopwatch.” I stepped on Bakshi’s foot and shouldered him away. He was still fiddling with his wallet. “We’re not interested,” I said to the boy. He just shrugged. “Suit yourselves. If you change your mind, order another pizza and ask for Ruby.” The elevator dinged and the doors opened. As we shuffled inside, I saw Bakshi’s cheeks turn red. “I’m not actually—” he mumbled, but I didn’t let him finish. What had bothered me so much about the boy wasn’t the way he looked or acted; in fact, it wasn’t really the boy at all. He was just trying to make a buck. What bothered me was how ruthlessly we’d already begun to exploit each other.
For those of us who were heterosexual, sex was a definite weakness. I missed it. I would never have it with a woman again. The closest substitute was pornography, whose price rose with its popularity, but which, at least for me, now came scented with the unpleasantness of historicity and nostalgia. Videos and photos, not to mention physical magazines, were collector’s items in the same way that we once collected coins or action figures. The richest men bought up the exclusive rights to their favourite porn stars and guarded them by law with a viciousness once reserved for the RIAA and MPAA. Perhaps exclusivity gave them a possessive satisfaction. In response, we pirated whatever we could and fought for a pornographic public domain. Although new pornography was still being produced, either with the help of the same virtual technology they used for mainstream movies or with the participation of young men in costume, it lacked the taste of the originals. It was like eating chocolate made without cocoa. The best pornography, and therefore the best sex, became the pornography of the mind.
The Tribe of Akna reached its Kickstarter goal in early December. On December 20, I went to church for the first time since getting married because that was the theoretical date that my wife—along with every other woman—was supposed to have given birth. I wanted to be alone with others. Someone posted a video on TikTok from Elia Kazan’s On The Waterfront, dubbing over Marlon Brando’s speech to say: “You don’t understand. I could’a had a piece of ass. I could’a been a school board member. I could’a been a son’s daddy”. It was juvenile and heartbreaking. By Christmas, the Surinamese government was already expelling its citizens, each of whom had theoretically been given a fraction of the funds paid to the government from the Tribe of Akna’s Kickstarter pool, and Salvador Abaroa’s lawyers were petitioning for international recognition of the new state of Xibalba. Neither Canada nor the United States opened diplomatic relations, but others did. I knew people who had pledged money, and when in January they disappeared on trips, I had no doubt to where. Infamy spread in the form of stories and urban legends. There’s no need for details. People disappeared, and ethicists wrote about the ethical neutrality of murder, arguing that because we were all slated to die, leaving the Earth barren in a century, destruction was a human inevitability, and what is inevitable can never be bad, even when it comes earlier than expected—even when it comes by force. Because, as a species, we hadn’t chosen destruction for ourselves, neither should any individual member of our species be able to choose now for himself. To the ethicists of what became known as the New Inevitability School, suicide was a greater evil than murder because it implied choice and inequality. If the ship was going down, no one should be allowed to get off. A second wave of suicides coincided with the debate, leading many governments to pass laws making suicide illegal. But how do you punish someone who already wants to die? In China: by keeping him alive and selling him to Xibalba, where he becomes the physical plaything of its citizens and visa-holders. The Chinese was the first embassy to open in Xibalban Paramaribo.
The men working on Kurt Schwaller’s theory of everything continued working, steadily adding new variables to their equations, complicating their calculations in the hopes that someday the variable they added would be the final one and the equation would yield an answer. “It’s pointless,” Bakshi would comment after reading about one of the small breakthroughs they periodically announced. “Even if they do manage to predict something, anything, it won’t amount to anything more than the painfully obvious. And after decades of adding and subtracting their beans, they’ll come out of their Los Alamos datalabs like groundhogs into a world blanketed by storm clouds and conclude, finally and with plenty of self-congratulations, that it’s about to fucking rain.”
It rained a lot in February. It was one of the warmest Februaries in Toronto’s history. Sometimes I went for walks along the waterfront, talking to my wife, listening to Billie Holiday and trying to recall as many female faces as I could. Ones from the distant past: my mother, my grandmothers. Ones from the recent past: the woman whose life my wife saved on the way to the hospital, the Armenian woman with the film magazine and the injured son, the Jamaican woman, Bakshi’s wife. I focused on their faces, then zoomed out to see their bodies. I carried an umbrella but seldom opened it because the pounding of the raindrops against the material distorted my mental images. I saw people rush across the street holding newspapers above their heads while dogs roamed the alleyways wearing nothing at all. Of the two, it was dogs that had the shorter time left on Earth, and if they could let the rain soak their fur and drip off their bodies, I could surely let it run down my face. It was first my mother and later my wife who told me to always cover up in the rain, “because moisture causes colds,” but I was alone now and I didn’t want to be separated from the falling water by a sheet of glass anymore. I already was cold. I saw a man sit down on a bench, open his briefcase, pack rocks into it, then close it, tie it to his wrist, check his watch and start to walk into the polluted waters of Lake Ontario. Another man took out his phone and tapped his screen a few times. The man in the lake walked slowly, savouring each step. When the police arrived, sirens blaring, the water was up to his neck. I felt guilty for watching the three officers splash into the lake after him. I don’t know what happened after that because I turned my back and walked away. I hope they didn’t stop him. I hope he got to do what he wanted to do.
“Screw the police.” Bakshi passed me a book. “You should read this,” he said. It was by a professor of film and media studies at a small university in Texas. There was a stage on the cover, flanked by two red curtains. The photo had been taken from the actors’ side, looking out at an audience that the stage lights made too dark to see. The title was Hiding Behind The Curtains. I flipped the book over. There was no photo of the author. “It’s a theory,” Bakshi said, “that undercuts what Abaroa and the Inevitabilists are saying. It’s a little too poetic in parts but—listen, you ever read Atlas Shrugged?” I said I hadn’t. “Well, anyway, what this guy says is that what if instead of our situation letting us do anything we want, it’s actually the opposite, a test to see how we act when we only think that we’re doomed. I mean what if the women who died in March, what if they’re just—” “Hiding behind the curtains,” I said. He bit his lower lip. “It sounds stupid when you say it like that but, as a metaphor, it has a kind of elegance, right?” I flipped through the book, reading a few sentences at random. It struck me as neo-Christian. “Isn’t this a little too spiritual for you? I thought we were all locked into one path,” I said. “I thought that, too, but lately I’ve been able to do things—things that I didn’t really want to do.” For a second I was concerned. “Nothing bad,” he said. “I mean I’ve felt like I’m locked into doing one thing, say having a drink of water, but I resist and pour myself a glass of orange juice instead.” I shook my head. “It’s hard to explain,” he said. That’s how most theories ended, I thought: reason and evidence up to a crucial point, and then it gets so personal that it’s hard to explain. You either make the jump or you don’t. “Just read it,” he said. “Please read it. You don’t have to agree with it, I just want to get your opinion, an objective opinion.”
I never did read the book, and Bakshi forgot about it, too, but that day he was excited and happy, and those were rare feelings. I was simultaneously glad for him and jealous. Afterwards, we went out onto the balcony and drank Czech beer until morning. When it got cool, we put on our coats. It started to drizzle so we wore blue plastic suits like the ones they used to give you on boat rides in Niagara Falls. When it was time to go home, I was so drunk I couldn’t see straight. I almost got into a fight, the first one of my life, because I bumped into a man on the street and told him to get the fuck out of my way. I don’t remember much more of my walk home. The only reason I remember Behind The Curtains at all is because when I woke up in the afternoon it was the first thing that my hung over brain recognized. It was lying on the floor beside the bed. Then I opened the blinds covering my bedroom window and, through my spread fingers that I’d meant to use as a shield from the first blast of daylight, I saw the pincers for the first time.
They’d appeared while I was asleep. I turned on the television and checked my phone. The media and the internet were feverish, but nobody knew what the thing was, just a massive, vaguely rectangular shape blotting out a strip of the sky. NASA stated that it had received no extraterrestrial messages to coincide with the appearance. Every government claimed ignorance. The panel discussions on television only worsened my headache. Bakshi emailed me links to photos from Mumbai, Cape Town, Sydney and Mexico City, all showing the same shape; or rather one of a pair of shapes, for there were two of them, one on each side of the Earth, and they’d trapped our planet between themselves like gargantuan fingers clutching an equally gargantuan ping-pong ball. That’s why somebody came up with the term “the pincers”. It stuck. Because I’d slept in last night’s clothes I was already dressed, so I ran down the stairs and out of my apartment building to get a better look at them from the parking lot. You’re not supposed to look at the sun, but I wasn’t the only one breaking that rule. There were entire crowds with upturned faces in the streets. If the pincers, too, could see, they would perhaps be as baffled by us as we were of them: billions of tiny specks all over the surface of this ping-pong ball gathering in points on a grid, coagulating into large puddles that vanished overnight only to reassemble in the morning. In the following days, scientists scrambled to study the pincers and their potential effects on us, but they discovered nothing. The pincers did nothing. They emitted nothing, consumed nothing. They simply were. And they could not be measured or detected in any way other than by eyesight. When we shot rays at them, the rays continued on their paths unaffected, as if nothing was there. The pincers did, however, affect the sun’s rays coming towards us. They cut up our days. The sun would rise, travel over the sky, hide behind a pincer—enveloping us in a second night—before revealing itself again as a second day. But if the pincers’ physical effect on us was limited to its blockage of light, their mental effects on us were astoundingly severe. For many, this was the sign they’d been waiting for. It brought hope. It brought gloom. It broke and confirmed ideas that were hard to explain. In their ambiguity, the pincers could be anything, but in their strangeness they at least reassured us of the reality of the strange times in which we were living. Men walked away from the theory of everything, citing the pincers as the ultimate variable that proved the futility of prognostication. Others took up the calculations because if the pincers could appear, what else was out there in our future? However, ambiguity can only last for a certain period. Information narrows possibilities. On April 1, 2026, every Twitter account in the world received the following message:
as you can see this message is longer than the allowed one hundred forty characters time and space are malleable you thought you had one hundred years but prepare for the plucking
The sender was @. The message appeared in each user’s feed at exactly the same time and in his first language, without punctuation. Because of the date most of us thought it was a hoax, but the developers of Twitter denied this vehemently. It wasn’t until a court forced them to reveal their code, which proved that a message of that length and sent by a blank user was impossible, that our doubts ceased. ##!! took bets on what the message meant. Salvador Abaroa broadcast a response into space in a language he called Bodhi Mayan, then addressed the rest of us in English, saying that in the pincers he had identified an all-powerful prehistoric fire deity, described in an old Sanskrit text as having the resemblance of mirrored black fangs, whose appearance signified the end of time. “All of us will burn,” he said, “but paradise shall be known only to those who burn willingly.” Two days later, The Tribe of Akna announced that in one month it would seal Xibalba from the world and set fire to everything and everyone in it. For the first time, its spokesman said, an entire nation would commit suicide as one. Jonestown was but a blip. As a gesture of goodwill, he said that Xibalba was offering free immolation visas to anyone who applied within the next week. The New Inevitability School condemned the plan as “offensively unethical” and inequalitist and urged an international Xibalban boycott. Nothing came of it. When the date arrived, we watched with rapt attention on live streams and from the vantage points of circling news planes as Salvador Abaroa struck flint against steel, creating the spark that caught the char cloth, starting a fire that blossomed bright crimson and in the next weeks consumed all 163,821 square kilometres of the former Republic of Suriname and all 2,500,000 of its estimated Xibalban inhabitants. Despite concerns that the fire would spread beyond Xibalba’s borders, The Tribe of Akna had been careful. There were no accidental casualties and no unplanned property damage. No borders were crossed. Once the fire burned out, reporters competed to be first to capture the mood on the ground. Paramaribo resembled the smouldering darkness of a fire pit.
It was a few days later while sitting on Bakshi’s balcony, looking up at the pincers and rereading a reproduction of @’s message—someone had spray-painted it across the wall of a building opposite Bakshi’s—that I remembered Iris. The memory was so absorbing that I didn’t notice when Bakshi slid open the balcony door and sat down beside me, but I must have been smiling because he said, “I don’t mean this the wrong way, but you look a little loony tonight. Seriously, man, you do not look sufficiently freaked out.” I’d remembered Iris before, swirling elements of her plain face, but now I also remembered her words and her theory. I turned to Bakshi, who seemed to be waiting for an answer to his question, and said, “Let’s get up on the roof of this place.” He grabbed my arm and held on tightly. “I’m not going to jump, if that’s what you mean.” It wasn’t what I meant, but I asked, “why not?” He said, “I don’t know. I know we’re fucked as a species and all that, but I figure if I’m still alive I might as well see what happens next, like in a bad movie you want to see through to the end.” I promised him that I wasn’t going to jump, either. Then I scrambled inside his apartment, grabbed my hat and jacket from the closet by the front door and put them on while speed walking down the hall, toward the fire escape. I realized I’d been spending a lot of time here. The alarm went off as soon I pushed open the door with my hip but I didn’t care. When Bakshi caught up with me, I was already outside, leaping up two stairs at a time. The metal construction was rusted. The treads wobbled. On the roof, the wind nearly blew my hat off and it was so loud I could have screamed and no one would have heard me. Holding my hat in my hands, I crouched and looked out over the twinkling city spread out in front of me. It looked alive in spite of the pincers in the sky. “Let’s do something crazy,” I yelled. Bakshi was still catching his breath behind me. “What, like this isn’t crazy enough?” The NHL may have been gone but my hat still bore the Maple Leafs logo, as quaint and obsolete by then as the Weimar Republic in the summer of 1945. “When’s the last time you played ball hockey?” I asked. Bakshi crouched beside me. “You’re acting weird. And I haven’t played ball hockey in ages.” I stood up so suddenly that Bakshi almost fell over. This time I knew I was smiling. “So call your buddies,” I said. “Tell them to bring their sticks and their gear and to meet us in front of the ACC in one hour.” Bakshi patted me on the back. Toronto shone like jewels scattered over black velvet. “The ACC’s been closed for years, buddy. I think you’re really starting to lose it.” I knew it was closed. “Lose what?” I asked. “It’s closed and we’re going to break in.”
The chains broke apart like shortbread. The electricity worked. The clouds of dust made me sneeze. We used duffel bags to mark out the goals. We raced up and down the stands and bent over, wheezing at imaginary finish lines. We got into the announcer’s booth and called each other cunts through the microphone. We ran, fell and shot rubber pucks for hours. We didn’t keep score. We didn’t worry. “What about the police?” someone asked. The rest of us answered: “Screw the fucking police!”
And when everybody packed up and went home, I stayed behind.
“Are you sure you’re fine?” Bakshi asked.
“Yeah,” I said.
“Because I have to get back so that I can shower, get changed and get to work.”
“Yeah, I know,” I said.
“And you promise me you’ll catch a cab?”
“I’m not suicidal.”
He fixed his grip on his duffel bag. “I didn’t say you were. I was just checking.”
“I want to see the end of the movie, too,” I said.
He saluted. I watched him leave. When he was gone, my wife walked down from the nosebleeds and took a seat beside me. “There’s someone I want to tell you about,” I said. She lifted her chin like she always does when something unexpected catches her interest, and scooted closer. I put my arm across the back of her beautiful shoulders. She always liked that, even though the position drives me crazy because I tend to talk a lot with my hands. “Stuck at Leafs-Wings snorefest,” she said. “Game sucks but I love the man sitting beside me.” (January 15, 2019. Themes: hockey, love, me. Rating: 5/5). “Her name was Iris,” I said.

2020.09.30 22:49 TasmanianPenguin Overview of my MCAT journey, hope someone finds it useful/helpful. Feel free to ask questions

I just wanted to post this just to share a little bit of the process I went through and to give back. This site was super helpful for me and I couldn’t have done as well on the MCAT without people giving so many useful tips and guidance. This might not be helpful to any people, but if something that I wrote or any questions I can answer is helpful or useful to at least one person then I'll be glad that I posted this.
Test date: 9/12/2020 @ 12:15 pm
Score: 517 (130, 129, 128, 130)
Major: Biochemistry '20
I was planning on starting to study over the summer before my senior year (2019) and then taking the MCAT in January 2020. However, I decided I needed to primarily focus on a summer research internship and push off studying until after the summer. Once the fall came though, preparing for the MCAT never ended up being a viable option in my opinion as balancing classes, work, volunteering etc made things extremely difficult. I was attempting to fit in all of my junior and senior year biochemistry classes into a one year period, which was not convenient for having plenty of extra time to invest into MCAT preparation. My mindset was wait until after I graduate to prepare for and take the MCAT as I would rather succeed at the highest level possible first in university classes and then the MCAT. The last thing I wanted was to string myself too thin and be mediocre academically, at work, volunteering, etc and obtain a less than ideal MCAT score. I think if at all possible try to cut back at least to some extent from commitments to ensure you are adequately readying yourself for the MCAT
I received a great deal of helpful MCAT advice from friends who applied in this 2020 cycle. I partially based my preparation off of them and also made my own personal adjustments to fit what worked for my strengths and weaknesses and the time frame I had to prepare before taking the test on 9/12. I think it’s key to experiment and find out what works best for you personally as MCAT prep is not one-size fits all.
I started prep around the end of June. I started with content review using the Kaplan set of books. My approach was to read each book from start to finish sequentially (the order I chose to do them in was in order of my perceived weaknesses or what was least fresh in mind aka it had been 3 years since I’d taken gen chem and physics: 1) physics (2) chem (3) ochem (4) biochem (5) biology …… skipped CARS and psych books but will come back to that). Some people recommend jumping from chapter to chapter alternating books, however, I preferred the continuity of the topics and chapter content building off of each other. Whatever works best for you though. There is a document called “Uearth and Kaplan connection”. My process was to read chapters in chunks, creating Anki flash cards as necessary, and then doing the corresponding Uearth questions that were related to those chapters. I did not do the Kaplan practice questions in the book as they are not really similar to the MCAT style at all. Uearth is an incredible resource of 2000+ passage based and discrete questions that I highly recommend.
For CARS, I always enjoyed reading and felt that was a strength of mine. However, MCAT CARS is a totally different beast that is definitely worth preparing for even if you consider yourself a good reader. I essentially did 8 Jack Weston passages at least every other day to replicate the length and stamina required for the CARS section. I would do 1 passage, check my answers and then proceed to the next passage. I also took all the free CARS JW tests that are available….. i.e. “Toronto, Los Angeles, New York, etc”. I also temporarily got the Wall Street Journal subscription for the summer and made it my routine to read/skim it through from beginning to end throughout the day during meals. The opinion articles written I think were honestly helpful in analyzing and interpreting the points authors were trying to make, a similar skill needed for CARS.
For psychology/sociology, I watched all of the Khan Academy videos and read the 300 pg document. I also used Premed 95’s psych/soc deck. I eventually did a skim through the Kaplan psych/soc book, but the KA videos are what I would consider more helpful.
I made an effort to take a great deal of practice tests and questions, and I felt that was the most vital part of my prep. On the NS diagnostic (6/20) I got a 504. I took the Kaplan tests that I received access through from my set of books (FL #3: 505 (7/10), FL #2: 505 (7/21), FL #1: 506 (7/28) FL #7: 508 (8/5). At this point I essentially quit reviewing Anki flash cards consistently and focused on reading the books, watching KA videos and Uearth (flashcards were never really my thing and I wish I had spent less time with them).
After finishing my initial round of content review and completing all of the Uearth questions, I began a second stage focused more on practice tests. I did a NS FL exam and review of the exam every few days mixed in with a faster re-read of all of the Kaplan books (this 2nd time just reading/skimming and not making flashcards). Results were as follows: NS FL #6: 509 (8/13), NS FL #5: 512 (8/17), NS FL #4: 510 (8/19), NS FL #3: 509 (8/21), NS FL #2: 512 (8/23), NS FL #1: 510 (8/26).
The final stage of preparation in the last 2-3 weeks before my test was spent almost exclusively on AAMC material. I did a pattern of day #1: AAMC FL test, day #2: review of AAMC FL test, day #3: a selection of roughly 240 AAMC practice questions from various sections of the qpacks and section bank and review of my answers. I also did targeted review with books and videos of specific areas I struggled with.
Results were as follows: AAMC sample: 512 (128, 127, 128, 129) (8/27), AAMC FL #1: 516 (129, 130, 128, 129) (8/30), AAMC FL #2: 515 (130, 128, 128, 129) (9/2), AAMC FL #3: 519 (131, 128, 129, 131) (9/5), AAMC FL #4: 521 (132, 128, 131, 130) (9/5).
Other AAMC material: AAMC OG test (overall: 84%) (9/6), Physics Qpack: 88%, Chem Qpack: 90%, CARS Qpack #1: 76%, CARS Qpack #2: 83%, Bio Qpack #1: 88%, Bio Qpack #2: 78%, Chem section bank: 77%, BB section bank: 77%, Psych/soc section bank: 72%.
I think I was capable and trending towards a 520+ score. But test day on 9/12 @ 12:15pm I was not in the best frame of mind. I had family evacuated in the fires occurring in the West Coast and had friends that had completely lost their homes. I was also moving to the East Coast the next morning on 9/13. Additionally, not practicing the covid shortened format was not a good move on my part. I was used to starting slow and picking up speed/pace as I went through each section. My PI/mentor from the previous year also unexpectedly passed away that same weekend. Anyways, I feel like I was capable of scoring significantly higher, but due to the circumstances, I am extremely happy that I was able to push through a lot of extra stress and whatnot to obtain a score that I am okay with. The 9/12 test I took felt very strange and not very similar to the AAMC practice tests. There were very obscure and convoluted questions/passages that I was honestly not prepared for or expecting.

2020.09.29 15:48 justinposition CVC 22405, Los Angeles, 63 in a 45

First of all, I have read and re-read the 12-Step Guide.
Second, here is the ticket.
On Sunday morning, my car and a motorcycle next to me were driving on the Vincent Thomas Bridge, passing by a parked CHP vehicle on the shoulder. The CHP vehicle started moving and asked me to pull over. The officer then wrote me up for speeding on a bridge.
My intention is to fight the ticket. The following is my plan:
  1. Request at least a 30 day extension. As of 9/29/2020, the due date to appear is 2/2/2021. I have yet to receive the Courtesy Notice in the mail.
  2. About two weeks before the extended due date, I will mail to the court a letter requesting the TR-205 form to do TBWD.
  3. About two weeks before the due date specified on the TR-205 form, I will mail the same form to the court. For the Statement of Facts, I intend to only write "I respectfully demand the prosecution prove its case" as my defense.
  4. After receiving the result of the TBWD, and it says "guilty," I will submit a TR-220 to request a Trial de Novo (TDN).
  5. On the date specified by the letter responding to the TR-220, my attorney will go to court. If the officer shows up, then the attorney will negotiate with them with the goal to dismiss or reduce the severity of the ticket. If that is not possible, the attorney will seek the option to do traffic school. All of the above will be done before the actual trial starts.
In executing the above described plan, I have several questions:
  1. How much of an advantage do I get when I hire a firm to write an actual defense for the Statement of Facts portion of the TR-205 for TBWD (versus "I respectfully demand the prosecution prove its case")? I'm really considering Ticket Snipers based on the many positive reviews I read online at multiple sites. If you know any other firms that I should consider, please let me know in your response.
  2. Do you know any good traffic attorneys in the Los Angeles area (costing around $100-$150, willing to pay up to $350) who can represent me for the TDN if necessary? As of now, I am shopping around, mostly on Yelp and reading their reviews.
  3. All the firms I contacted so far suggest that I should take care of the ticket ASAP. I responded by saying that I want to take care of the ticket later for reasons described in the 12-Step Guide. The firms then said that there is no noticeable difference in outcome. With the pandemic still going on, does the advantage of taking care of the ticket later (versus sooner) still applicable?
  4. While shopping around, I heard news from firms that due to more people doing TBWD due to the pandemic, CHP is responding to them more in response, thus leading to more Guilty verdicts. Also, I heard CHP and judges are now less lenient in negotiations with attorneys representing people who already received Guilty verdicts in TBWD. In addition, I heard clerks at courthouses are struggling in sending out court forms on time. Then there are issues with USPS in delivering mail on time. Given the above, is it still worth doing TBWD, then TDN afterwards?
That is all for now. Thank you very much for taking a look. I will post regular updates.

2020.09.28 12:01 Business-Complaint-9 MY DYING LAST DAYS, GETTING F****D BY SUDDENLINK!! (Charging Me A Service $60 Fee On The 3rd Time Out, To No Avail Why I Wasn't Getting HS Net, For Him To Tell Me, "IT MAY VERY WELL BE A GHOST OR SOMETHING, BECAUSE A HOME NEARBY WAS A PASTORS WHO HELD FUNERALS THERE IN THE EARLY 1900s)

I was warned about Suddenlink when I moved to WV after losing home in Florida from hurricane. BUT, there really is no other with proper service for HS Internet. First, ordered just low internet. Within hours would get 10-20 texts/emails offering to upgrade. Took deal, $99 for Phone, 2nd Tier Cable 200 Channels and 400 MBPS HS Internet, PLUS $200 Amazon Gift Card offer. Was to be installed between 1 and 4pm. Called at 5pm, told on their way, 6:00 "En Route" 7:30, She hung up on me, 9pm, "Checked w/driver, he is Enroute". Installer didn't get here until a little after 10pm. He said, they told him I was an irate customer that demanded the installation TODAY!... LIED. He installed 2 Altice ONE boxes, both didn't work, he called his Sup. They were here until after 1am. Sup gave him the next day off, I tipped them $30. I then soon realized NONE of my devices were getting more than 35 MBPS Internet. 3 phones, Desk PC, 2 Laptops and I even had people I knew, that had never been here, to enter and log onto WiFi in case we all got a virus. NOPE, No more than 35MBPS. Called and tech came out, once...had no idea, twice, had no idea, three times w/the third so confused he said it MAY BE A GHOST because the house in front was once home to Pastor who held funerals in early 1900s. A GHOST! I then received a $60 fee on my bill for them to come out, yet nothing was fixed. Then on one of the countless calls, the CS Agent said it was because our area couldn't get those speeds! Yet, I was paying for it for NOW 5 months. He said he would have the Tech fee reversed. After calling about the Amazon card once, they told me I had to wait 90 days, second call they said I had to wait six months, third call, they gave me a number to call, number was invalid. Called now in my later part of sixth month, person gave me another number and since the tech fee did not show on my bill, he said he escalated it to priority and said it would be off. NOW, well into my 7th month, after paying all this time for 400MBPS at $99 plus taxes and fees, with the total at first being $120, then slowly each month went up to $146, I called again for the Amazon and the credit and after speaking with 5 people, I was told by one, I wouldn't get a credit for the service call because I didn't sign up for and pay for "Safeline" (Never heard of it, was never offered it, would never have taken it!..if your service doesn't work, WHY would I pay for you to fix something that never worked that you sold me). I was sent to Supervisor who said they didn't even know what Safelline was! Then HE said that I could have gotten the credit but it was now past the second billing cycle since the tech came out and they cant credit past two months! Then asked about Amazon card, got the 5th guy, after all of the others told me that I had to wait 90 days, then it was 120 days, then two different times to call 2 diff numbers, none worked, now THIS person told me this.... and this is really good!.. You ready?...."In order to receive the card, you must pay your first three bills 10 DAYS BEFORE THE DUE DATE"...He didn't say, you I had to pay it within 10 days of the due date, meaning PAST the due date and he he was also telling me, simply PAYING THE BILL ON TIME, meaning 1 day early, 3 days early, 7 days early, which in today's economy and crisis, just paying your bill on time, as long as it's not past the due date should be considered an EXCELLENT payment history, right? NOPE, I had to pay the bill no later than ten days BEFORE the due date!!!! I went back to everything I had, I typed in the phrase in various ways online and nothing came up. I looked at every bill and my contract and receipt I was given both times!...NOTHING. By the way, YES, I am dying. I have Lupus and recently was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma skin cancer and had 1/4 of my torso skin taken off. Because of my Lupus, I am not able to be put under general anesthesia for staples, so they had to sew me with what they call Couch Staples. The cancer as made its way to my spine where I have three tumors and they cant do anything about them. NOW, I am not one to play the sick card, but after calling Suddenlink 18 times, that I kept track of, towards the end (More recent) I would get so frustrated at a different story told, excuse after excuse and LIES, I started letting them in on my other problems. Not that we all dont have some and don't expect special treatment, but I do expect what I paid for, not to be lied to time and time again and be f****d month after month, without even any lube!. At least others have been kind enough to offer THAT!. Yes, I joke, because I have to, but after the final call this week I lost it. When I was told I wasn't getting the card, I let loose, swore, yet never directed it at the person, and I USUALLY do not hold the reps accountable for corporate policies. HOWEVER, there is a point where you see that this company is SOOOO corrupt and that they dish out so many lies and scams, that it must really take a certain kind of person to work at a place like that and can do that to customers. I know some have kids and all that, but EVERY single person I have spoken with has lied, aimlessly uttered something like they cared and apologized, which are simply words on a cue card someone told them to say. I myself could never work at this place, EVER. I could not lie so blatantly to people. Especially when someone is so exhausted after bouncing around for 3 hours and 21 minutes as I had been this past Friday. I told the last guy, who amazingly spoke pretty good English...BECAUSE HE SPOKE IN THE QUEEN'S ENGLISH, as in British. Where HE came from I will never know. I told him Suddenlink and CEO Dexter Goei can "Go Eff themselves" and said I was cancelling as soon as I called AT&T, the only other company with decent internet service. The only other is Frontier, who wouldn't exist if it wasn't for mass exodus of pissed off Suddenlink customers and I heard their service is so bad most end up going back to Suddenlink. Ill just have to suck it up if that's the case. I have had my attorney in Los Angeles, who I admit is my Entertainment Atty and also who is handling my will since I am in the situation I am in with my health, but attorneys go to school and learn all law and then they enter into a certain field, so its not like he is totally not capable of SOMETHING, so he is filing complaints with the FCC and State Comptroller of both WV, NY and IL where their corporate filings and/or assets are kept, which includes Altice and Cablevision. He is also filing some other federal complaints other than the FCC because much of the money comes from and goes back to the company that purchased Suddenlink in 2015, or around then, that are based in France. Ironically, down on one of the street corners near the WV State Capitol Complex in Charleston, which is where I live, there has been a group of people, usually one dressed in a banana costume (Who knows, I guess to get you to look) holding signs about Suddenlink and Class Action Lawsuits filings. In my 53 years, with years that I worked FOR someone in a career position and not just "A Job", I have worked for either telecommunication companies (AT&T, Bell Atlantic and Southern Bell/BellSouth) and also the newly formed at the time because of the breakup of 'Ma'Bell' and being unregulated, with the then ability to diversify from telecommunications, the new AT&T Banking Division out of Jacksonville, Florida launching their new AT&T branded "Universal Card Visa/MC", for which I/We won the Malcolm Baldrige Award, a National award that was given for excellence in customer service. One of the requirements were that you had to have been in business for at least five years. In an unprecedented first, we won the top prize in our SECOND year. We had such high numbers they broke their own rules. AT&T Universal's CEO had the gold award melted down and made into smaller awards for each employee. I say this to show that I KNOW what kind of customer service a company not only should posses to keep customers, but that I also know when it goes beyond that, breaking laws, which they seem to have done quite clearly in my opinion and if the many class action lawsuits have any say. I also ventured into the Banking/Credit Card/Credit Reporting areas as well, including a couple years working late stage collection which even included "Skip Tracing". If anyone knows anything about that, they know that most late stage collectors, 3rd party collections and Skip Tracers, who are more PIs then Customer Service Reps and there are MANY horror stories of what Skip Tracers have done to find a person owing a debt, including calling neighbors, telling them there was a family emergency so they would walk next door to get the debtor to come to their house, only to fund the collector on the phone. Though I worked for a better bank than that, the horror stories I have heard, including repossession companies do not even come CLOSE to the lies and scams Suddenlink as pulled on FOR SURE myself, with proof, and seemingly others besides me in masses. Something needs to be done and until Im dead, I will do a little each day to chip away and warn others. I must get my roommate up for work and make breakfast and their lunch, so I don't have time to edit this for grammar or spelling, as I'm already behind, so my apology for that. Thanks

2020.09.26 22:56 kenovera 22348(b) Stockton, San Joaquin County, 104 in 65

I have read the 12 step guide. ticket Here’s my ticket with all the information. If I’m missing something in this post please let me know. I’ve been really sad and shaken up after this whole affair, I 19 M was driving home from Santa Cruz last night in my girlfriends car while she slept, I drive a 2010 Dodge Charger while her car is a 2014 Hyundai Accent, I noticed where I normally rest my foot on my car I would see 60 fairly quickly while in hers I had to really push just to crack past 40. So I was pushing it more and trying to find the sweet spot the whole ride home but couldn’t, the officer happened upon me while I was pushing it decently hard apparently but I really don’t know how it could have been all the way at 104 my intention was just to get home so I wasn’t paying attention to my speed hardly at all I was just driving normally I thought, he pulled me over while there was only his car, mine and one other in front of us on the road, he said his car was going 102 and his radar clocked me at 104 but I could have swore that I pulled in front of him and he had to have been only a car or two distance behind me so if we were really going past 100mph why was he going that fast before I even made it to him? I don’t really remember the events clearly so maybe I’m wrong I don’t know. He has me on radar and mvars is checked. It’s my first offense and it’s possible I could have been going past 100 but not likely. He has my court date the day I’m in Los Angeles looking for an apartment, I’m planning on moving in November. I guess this is all my long winded way of asking for advice and help about if it’s even worth trying to fight or should I just pay it, take the 2 points and spend the next 7 years hoping I never have another interaction? Since I’m not going to be there on the set date I was thinking about my options and was wondering what may be the best one in the eyes of this Reddit. 1) I pay the ticket online when it shows up and just cut my losses since I won’t be able to be there on the day. 2) I try to postpone the court date to a day I will be there but then I may get a trial day while I’m supposed to be in Los Angeles and have to represent myself, I’m a decent talker and MAY do okay in front of a judge but I don’t know all too much about the secret ins and outs of the right and wrong things to say in court 3) I hire an attorney to show up in my place and take it to trial for me, would that be worth it? Between court fees, lawyer fees and the actual ticket would it just be a wiser decision to simply accept my fate? Or is there any other option I may have? Please I know it’s not a very straightforward question like most posts but I feel so stuck and have no idea what to do, thank you.

2020.09.25 20:35 Rsubs33 [Game Preview] Week 3 - Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) at Philadelphia Eagles(0-2)

Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) at Philadelphia Eagles (0-2)
The Eagles are off to their worst start with a real coach since 2003 (I consider 2013-2015 non-existent) when they also dropped their first two games of the season. The team would like a repeat of that season where following a week 3 bye,the team rebounded to defeat the Bills 23-13. The Eagles ripped off 12 wins in their remaining 14 games following their 0-2 start. Maybe the Eagles will be able to do the same, but they will have to shake the injury bug first. The Eagles will be without first round pick Jalen Raegor this week who underwent surgery on his hand to repair a torn UC ligament in his thumb. The Eagles may also be without Fletcher Cox who is dealing with an oblique injury. The Cox injury should be watched closely if he can’t go, Joe Mixon and Joe Burrow will have a much easier day against the struggling defense. Last week against the Rams, the defense was under prepared and unable to stop anyone. The Rams took advantage of Jim Schwartz’s consistently odd decision to have his CBs, play so far off the line of scrimmage, giving a free release to the WRs and allowing easy short passes. If Schwartz does the same this week, it will be another long day for the Eagles defense and a great fantasy day for Tyler Boyd, who Bengals Joe Burrow connected with 7 times last week including 1 for a TD. On the other side of the ball Doug and Carson will both need to be better than the last two weeks. For Carson, he needs to get out of his own head and play with confidence. For Doug, he needs to find some creativity and help his 5th year QB. He would do well to get Carson moving and utilize the RBs more in the flat and screen game. However, if we see more of the same we saw in weeks 1 and 2 from the Eagles coaching staff, we should expect another loss. Hopefully that is not the case and Carson and the coaches can learn from their mistakes in weeks 1-2 and pull our a win this week. Go Birds!

Recap from Last Week’s Games.
Eagles - The Eagles' struggles continued in their home opener against the Los Angeles Rams. An early fumble by Miles Sanders led to a Rams touchdown by Tyler Higbee. After the Eagles cut their deficit to four with a Jake Elliott field goal, Los Angeles responded with a Robert Woods touchdown run followed by a second Higbee touchdown catch. Trailing 21-3, the Eagles closed the deficit to five points by halftime with touchdown runs by Wentz and Sanders. After forcing a three-and-out on the Rams' first possession of the second half, the Eagles would drive to the Los Angeles 21, only for Wentz's first down pass to be picked off by Darious Williams, turning the momentum back in the Rams' favor as they would outscore the Eagles 16-3 the rest of the way. Despite not being sacked once during the game, Wentz finished the day with a 56.5 passer rating, completing 26 of 43 passes for 242 yards and two interceptions. The 37-19 blowout loss dropped Philadelphia to 0-2 for the first time since the 2015 season, and marked the Eagles' first home opener loss since that same season. It was also the first home loss to the Rams franchise since the opener of the 2001 season.
Bengals - After losing their regular season-opening game at home, the Bengals then traveled to Cleveland to face the Browns for Battle of Ohio Round 1. In the first quarter, the Bengals scored first when Randy Bullock kicked a 38-yard field goal to make it 3-0. Though, the Browns took the lead when Nick Chubb ran for an 11-yard TD to make it 7-3. In the second quarter, the Browns went up by double digits when Baker Mayfield found O'dell Beckham Jr. on a 43-yard TD pass to make it 14-3. The Bengals then came within 4 after Joe Burrow found C.J. Uzomah on a 23-yard TD pass to make it 14-10. Mayfield then found Kareem Hunt on a 6-yard TD pass to put the Browns up by double digits, 21-10. The Bengals closed out the half when Randy Bullock kicked a 43-yard field goal to make it 21-13 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Browns went back up by double digits when Chubb ran for a 1-yard TD to make it 28-13. The Bengals drew closer with Bullock's 27-yard field goal to make it 28-16. In the fourth quarter, the Bengals were able to get within 5 when Burrow found Mike Thomas on a 4-yard TD pass to make the score 28-23. Though, the Browns would go back up by double digits yet again when Hunt punched the ball in for a 1-yard TD to make it 35-23. The Bengals wrapped up the scoring when Burrow found Tyler Boyd on a 9-yard TD pass to make the final score 35-30.

Stats to Know
QB Adjusted Completion %
What’s one thing rookie Joe Burrow and 5th-year Carson Wentz have in common? They have not been terribly accurate so far. PFF has an Adjusted Completion % stat that accounts for clear drops, spikes, throw aways, batted passes, and throws made while getting hit. Burrow and Wentz are near the bottom in AC%, with 70.4 and 70.3, respectively. Interesting to note a bit of the distribution within the array of aforementioned stats: while Burrow has had one of the lower rates of on-target passes dropped by the receiver (4.1%), Wentz doubled that at 8.4%, good for 5th-highest. Yes, Wentz has stunk, but...
Matchups to Watch
Rookie versus Veteran, Which QB Has Poise Down 0-2?
With two consecutive weeks of porous defense from both the Eagles and Bengals defensive units, this Sunday's matchup should rest squarely on the shoulders of each offensive unit. Will the Eagles be able to rely on fifth year starter Wentz? Will he be able to shake off two tumultuous weeks and put together a consistent offensive performance? Will the Bengals weapons coalesce around their rookie Burrow? Will he be able to put together his first complete NFL game and demonstrate that this season is the turning point for the franchise? A big piece of Wentz stabilizing his game time performance will be continuing his focus on short-time-to-throw plays. From Week 1 with 8 sacks versus the Washington Football Team to Week 2 and zero sacks versus the Rams with the vaunted Aaron Donald, the Eagles Offensive Line and Wentz’ pocket choices resulted in less lost yards and broken plays. Unfortunately, key turnovers again forced short-yardage scoring situations and massive tempo swings. Wentz needs to take advantage of the cleaner pocket that will likely be available versus the Bengals (2 sacks on the year so far) and finish drives cleanly to put the game away. Without rookie WR Jalen Reagor (placed on IR with a thumb injury after Week 2), Wentz will have to make use of the remainder of his threats, including veteran DeSean Jackson who had 6 catches on 9 targets for 64 yards against the superior Rams’ defensive backfield. Joe Burrow has had the classic introductory NFL QB experience. A high-flying game versus the Browns last week, with 300+ yards passing, 3TDs and zero ints was fantastic bounce back from Week 1 versus the Chargers. 193 yards, 0 TDs, and an int will not win the game for the Bengals versus the Eagles, even if Wentz struggles. A key focus for Burrow will be settling into the routine and relationships he’s formed with his offensive weapons. AJ Green remains one of the best WR threats in the NFL and his slow start to the season (8 catches for 80 yards) could end at any time, in any game with a QB like Burrow. Burrow threw a nearly record setting number of passes during the almost-come-from-behind loss versus the Browns; if the Bengals are able to establish their run-game and abuse the Philadelphia secondary in a similar way to the Rams offensive scheme, then Burrow could have a very big day. If he is forced to drop back 60+ times, and Joe Mixon is again held under 75 yards on the ground, the Bengals and Burrow may have a hard time. Keep an eye on how comfortable each QB is feeling, and whether they can establish good tempo. That will be key to offensive production this weekend.
Coaching Conundrum; Pederson versus Taylor
At the core of the NFL these days is the combat between offensive and defensive schemes. Both coaches come from a background of coaching QB play and offensive schemes, though from different eras and coaching trees. How they go about using that experience to enable their teams to a secure a necessary win this week will make or break their seasons. Doug Pederson, at the helm of a revamped offensive coaching tree with the addition of Quarterbacks Coach Press Taylor as Passing Game Coordinator, has had a rough three year stretch of offensive stumbles. Since the miraculous Super Bowl 52 season (2017), the Eagles have consistently failed to be productive, with a lot of the challenges relating to lack of roster depth and poor player improvement through misaligned coaching. This is the third consecutive year of stuttering offense to begin the season and a big piece of the matchup versus the Bengals will be how well the Eagles can settle in. Coach Pederson has made it clear that the lack of full-speed off-season practice plays a big role in the Eagle’s struggles so far; so it remains to be seen when and if both units can make use of this gametime practice to solidify the small flashes of prior success we’ve seen. Opposite Pederson is Coach Taylor, in his second year of a complete rebuild, now with the (ideally career-long) franchise WB in Burrow. Hailing from the Shanahan line, through the LA Rams McVay, Taylor was brought into Cincinnati to recreate the organization’s coaching structure and form a new core for the team around veteran WR AJ Green. The 2019 season showed marked improvement throughout, particularly in run production and passer protection; the addition of Covid-related practice limitations have also taken their toll on the Bengals’ preparations for this season, as exemplified by the Week 1 drubbing by the Ravens. Taylor returns this season with second-year offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, formerly the QB coach for the Raiders. The cerebral talent in the Bengals organization is clearly arrayed around giving Burrow the best possible chance to shine; and they may just do so against an extremely poorly performing Eagles defense. Being able to establish consistent offensive strength and consistency throughout this season will be a key part of whether this new coaching structure is able to flourish in Cincinnati or if yet more change is needed to remake the franchise. During game day, keep an eye out on how these coaches make use of their star players, now that the very early season yips and stumbles should be behind them. Whoever can appropriately adjust to the flow of the game and take advantage of the others mistakes will win this football game.
The Big Punt: How Special Teams Makes An Impact
Kevin versus Cameron, Huber versus Johnston, two players that may very well decide the nature of this Bengals versus Eagles matchup. These titans of the turf, two punters to rule them all, and two punters to pin them deep; two punters waiting on call, and two punters to make fans weep. In lieu of offensive production, and in hopes of good defensive play, Kevin Huber and Cameron Johnston bring their punting prowess to Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday. Hailing from opposite sides of the Earth, Huber from Cincinnati itself, and Johnston from Geelong Australia, these two are some of the most capable foot-based deliverers of the football to opposing teams. Huber holds nearly all of the Bengals franchise records in punting statistics; and Johnston holds the highest gross and net punting averages in a single Eagles season. The third year Australian punter is known by Eagles fans for his insanely long hang-time and penchant for pinning the NY Giants inside the 20 (20+ times in four games). Huber is loved by the Bengals fanbase as both their longest tenured player and his consistency over the past 13 years. He has missed just 2 of 180 possible games, and has been perennially top 10 at his position. Both players are in the final year of their contracts, so effective performance is a must for maximum salary gains. Keep an eye out on how effective these two are in establishing and keeping good field position. If both teams are struggling for consistency, these swings may be the key to a late drive that puts the game away. Additionally, with every punt comes the magic of a muffed punt return. If you’re a particular connoisseur of special teams play, watch and see if these punters add any special spin or location to their strikes; and key turnover last week in this position kept the Eagles hopeful. Maybe lightning will strike twice for the Eagles Special Teams and the Wizard with the Large Leg, Cam Johnston; maybe the Bengals gunners will scoop up a muff and Huber will be huger than expected. Stay tuned!

2020.09.24 06:13 TheMidnightArchive The Abduction and Murder of Amber Hagerman

A Trip to The Grocery Store
The late winter in Texas is a mild time usually, with steady wind and a biting chill in the air. The season is one of change, the life force of the previous year is fading away to succumb to a newness imbued by the heat of the Spring and Summer. January 12th, 1996 in Arlington, Texas was no different, the sun was shining, the wind was steady, and the temperature hovered around the mid-sixties. On this day Donna Whitson and her two children, nine-year-old Amber and five-year-old Ricky Hagerman were in Arlington visiting Donna’s parents, Glenda and Jimmie Whitson. The family arrived at their destination around 3pm and upon disembarking Donna’s car the kids asked to ride their bikes, the ones that Donna had her parents keep at their home for them. Donna, without a second thought, assented to the request with the limitation that the kids stay within a block of their grandparents’ home. She wanted them to be safe.
Once astride their bicycles and away from nagging adults, Amber disregarded the boundary set upon her and her brother. Amber led Ricky to the local neighborhood play spot, a shuttered Winn-Dixie grocery store and after approximately 15 minutes of riding around the parking lot and loading dock the younger Ricky was ready to turn back home, whether out of fear of being beyond their boundary or being tired is unknown. What is known is that Amber had elected to stay and ride her bike around the parking lot of the store on her own for a while longer, that Ricky went home alone, and that in the intervening time something horrible would happen to Amber that would shape substance and conscious of the her family forever.
On January 12th, Mr. Jim Kevil was sitting on his back porch looking out over his yard and fence, a view that happened to encompass the next-door Winn-Dixie store’s loading dock and the street it was on. Around 3:15 pm Mr. Kevil saw a lone young girl riding a colorful bike around the grocery store loading dock when a dark colored truck quickly pulled into the parking lot. Jim Kevil would later state that the driver of the truck was either white or Hispanic and between the ages of 25-40, this unknown subject grabbed Amber, who let out a scream and began kicking her abductor. The driver then put Amber in his vehicle before he sped off West bound down Abrams Road. Not just a passive witness, Mr. Kevil called 911 to report the incident to the police and to try to aid in the capture of the kidnapper and the return of the little girl. This would be the last time that anyone would see Amber Hagerman alive.
After arriving home alone five-year-old Ricky Hagerman was sent by his family back to the Winn-Dixie to retrieve his sister. Turning his bike around Ricky did as requested, only to return to an empty parking lot. Only a brief eight minutes had elapsed since he had last seen his sister, but it was too late; Amber was gone. Ricky once again arrived alone to the Whitson home prompting Grandfather Jimmie Whitson to race to the store in his car to search for Amber himself. Jimmie would arrive at the store at about the same time as an Arlington police officer, summoned by Jim Kevil’s 911 call did; the only remnant of Amber was her abandoned bicycle.
Law Enforcement, including the local police and the FBI (involved as a result of the pleas of Amber’s distraught family), coupled with a mass of volunteers began a wide net search for the missing girl, but came up empty. Amber had vanished.
Discovery
January 16, 1996 is a day that Amber’s family will never forget. Four days after she had been taken by an unidentified male from that Winn-Dixie parking lot, Amber Hagerman’s body was discovered in the early morning hours by an anonymous man walking his dog near the Forest Hills Apartment Complex in Arlington, Texas. Her body was found face down in a creek approximately 4 miles from her abduction site. Prior to this, apartment maintenance workers had been in that area and seen nothing, suggesting that the remains were either placed there after the workers had left or moved down stream by a torrential rainstorm that had just occurred. Amber’s family was informed shortly after the discovery, shocked they initially refused to believe the news with her father quoted in a New York Times article written at the time as saying, “She’s still alive” to the reporters covering the case and camped outside the Whitson home.
Amber was discovered wearing nothing but a single sock and the medical examiner would later confirm investigators suspicions, there was evidence of sexual assault and physical abuse, the cause of death: lacerations to the neck and throat. Additionally, the medical examiner stated that there was evidence that Amber had been kept alive for at least two days after her abduction before she was murdered, and her body disposed of.
Investigation Still Ongoing
More than 20 years later the investigation is still technically ongoing, to date the Arlington Police Department (APD) has not formally announced that they have any suspects or persons of interest. APD Detective Ben Lopez stated in a recent interview that the APD still receives tips regularly regarding the case and the department thoroughly investigates each one like it could be the piece of the puzzle that finally gives Amber’s family closure and justice.
An explanation of this unsolved murder most likely lies in the fact that Amber’s body was left in running water for an indeterminate amount of time, coupled with the storm that raised the creek level and most likely moved the body from the dump site, forensic evidence would have been all but erased and any physical evidence diluted or washed away. Not helping the investigation is the fact that there is only one witness to the crime: Jim Kevil was the sole person to come forward with information regarding the abduction, despite the fact that Amber was taken in broad daylight on a residential street. To date no one else has come forward with evidence or statements to aid in the apprehension of the unknown subject. Some reports assert that this is a result of the immigrant community in the area and the traditional apprehension of this population in talking to law enforcement thought that remains unsubstantiated speculation.
It is believed that Amber’s abductor and murderer was a stranger to her given that he took her by force and did not attempt to talk her into his vehicle. With this, I agree with the official narrative. Where I differ is on why Amber was taken. Based on the speed at which the abduction occurred it suggests to me that Amber may have been watched for some time before being taken. As stated previously Amber Hagerman was abducted in a window of approximately 8 minutes from when her brother left and then returned to bring her home. The official narrative is that this was an act of extreme opportunity when the perpetrator just happened to be driving by when he saw her alone. This would suggest that there was an event that triggered sporadic actions in the perpetrator, to quote a popular television show there must have been a stressor that induced this action.
Regardless of the why, the fact of the matter is that Amber Hagerman’s killer is still at large. He has gone unpunished for his heinous actions against this innocent little girl and by extension her family. As a result of chance and a fluke of nature no evidence or additional witnesses remain of what happened on that fateful winter day. Amber’s killer is nameless, and her family is left with no closure or answers, only questions and heartache.
Possible Suspects
Richard Lee Franks
Richard Lee Franks was charged on March 16, 2000 with the aggravated kidnapping of Opal Jo Jennings from Saginaw, a town a few miles north of Fort Worth. On March 26, 1999 6-year-old Opal was playing with her 3-year-old cousin in a vacant lot next to her grandparent’s house when Franks pulled up to the lot in his black Mercury Cougar. He then exited his vehicle and approached the kids feigning conversation with them. When Franks was close enough, he plucked Opal off the ground, punched her in the chest and put her in his car. What happened next was not unlike in Amber’s case, a large-scale search was launched for Opal led by her family and the local police department, it would not be for five years that Opal would be found. Her remains were discovered in a wooded area while two individuals were riding their horses along a remote trail. As a result of the state in which the remains were found, there was little physical or forensic evidence. What was clear was that the cause of death was most likely the result of a blow to the head. Franks would later be charged with Opal’s kidnapping but not her murder as there was no evidence to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Franks had indeed murdered her. In fact, he claimed that he had driven her to a local store to get a drink and left her there. What lends credence to Franks as a potential suspect is the similarity between Amber and Opal, and the way that they were taken. Both were seemingly impulse driven abductions based on the speed in which they occurred.
This link between Opal and Amber was not solely based on the research of internet sleuths. Mark Simpson, an investigating officer in the Hagerman case in an address to the National Children’s Advocacy Center’s 26 Annual National Symposium on Child Abuse to the fact that Franks had prior criminal history involving children, all young, brown haired girls and that Opal’s kidnaping occurred in the same county as Amber’s. Based on proximity, prior history, and similarity in method at the very least one could expect that APD would investigate Franks as a person of interest however, that has not been the case.
Terapon Adhahn
Born in Bangkok, Thailand. Terapon immigrated to the United States as a child when his mother married a U.S. serviceman and he returned to the United States. As he grew older Terapon would become a Buddhist monk as well as follow in his stepfather’s footsteps and join the U.S. Army. Adhahn has been connected to (either directly as the known perpetrator or suspected) multiple offenses, both resolved or unresolved, against children throughout Washington State including rape, kidnapping, and murder. He has also been questioned in connection the Amber Hagerman case by APD though has not been named as an official suspect.
In 1990 Adhahn was charged with sexual assault against a 16-year-old relative. This charge would result in him being forced to register as a sex offender and enter rehabilitation but as a first offense was not enough for him to be deported.
On May 31, 2000 an 11-year-old unnamed (for reasons of privacy) Spanaway County Girl was abducted on her way to school. She was bound and taken to a secluded training field close to the Fort Lewis Military Base where she was repeatedly assaulted over the course of an hour. After the assaults Adhahn left her bound on a road nearby where she would be discovered walking, still bound with her eyes taped over, by a Tacoma City Police Officer.
In December 2005, Adre’anna Jackson would also be abducted on her way to school, she disappeared from Lakewood in Pierce County, Washington and was never seen again. Over a year later, April 2006, skeletal remains were found in a field near her Tillicum neighborhood. Investigators showed pictures of Adhahn to residents who identified him as a known handyman who frequently worked in the area. He is regarded as a person of interest in this case.
On July 4, 2007 Zina Linnik had been watching a firework display with her siblings on a hilltop near her home when her father, Mikhail Linnik, on his back porch presumably also watching the display, heard his daughter cry out. When he arrived at the spot that Zina was taken all that was left was a single shoe she had been wearing, Mikhail also saw a gray Chevy Astro van speeding away and he was able to partially make out the license plate. Four days alter Terapon Adhahn was arrested for the kidnapping of Zina. However, this speedy apprehension was not enough, on condition of prosecution not seeking the death penalty, Adhahn led investigators to the remains of young Zina Linnik. She had been strangled with a zip tie though Adhahn would claim that her death had been an accident.
Additionally, while living in the Tacoma area, Adhahn was responsible for the care of an unnamed (again for the sake of privacy) 12-year-old girl. Her mother allowed the girl to live with Adhahn since she was unable to provide for her daughter, Adhahn only a “friend of her mother’s boyfriend”. Over the course of the next three years Adhahn would subject the young girl to repeated sexual assault, stopping only when she was able to run away after being assaulted at gun point.
Why Terapon Adhahn? It has been reported that, coupled with his extensive and horrendous history with children, Terapon lived for a time with his aunt in the Fort Worth area around 1996. During the investigation, law enforcement noticed striking similarities in the method of kidnapping, assault, and victims in the Adhahn case and with a few officers having been trained in Texas for the Amber Alert System, were familiar with the Hagerman case. Additionally, he used a similar vehicle in the Fort Lewis incident as was seen in Amber’s abduction. Terapon has been question regarding Amber's abduction and murder though not formally named as a suspect or even a person of interest.
Similar Cases
Heidi Seeman – San Antonio, Texas
On August 4, 1990 11-year-old Heidi Seeman was walking home from a sleep-over at a friend house the previous night. Her unnamed friend walked Heidi a part of the way home, to a midpoint between their houses at the intersection of Stahl road and Willow Run Street. Approaching the intersection Heidi’s friend as well as neighbors in the area reported seeing a red car with dark tinted windows pass by the girls slowly, and the driver watching them intently. Thinking nothing much of it, the girls parted ways and Heidi was never seen again. On August 25th, 1990 her remains were found in Hays County, Texas. No additional details were released regarding her death aside from the fact that a medical examiner ruled her death as a result of homicide.
Erica Botello – San Antonio, Texas
Closer in circumstance to Amber Hagerman, 7-year-old Erica Botello was taken on August 23, 1990 from the playground (or road next to depending on source) near her apartment complex. She was not unsupervised or alone the entire time she was playing. Erica was with her Father however he stepped inside for a brief time. When he went back outside, Erica was gone. Her remains would be found on August 25, 1990 in a storm drain about a mile from her home and abduction site. There is little information regarding Erica’s as she was and is eclipsed by the case of Heidi Seeman, a young white girl just a few years older than Erica, a girl of Hispanic dissent, from a wealthier side of San Antonio to the working class area that the Botello family lived in. Any information found on Erica is usually limited to brief sentences and always in tandem to Heidi.
Legacy and Aftermath
What happened to Amber Hagerman is not a mystery, it is known. She was taken from her family, held and assaulted over the course of two days, killed, and her body was disposed of in a creek not far from her abduction site. Her killer did all of these things without leaving any evidence, and slipped away. What isn't known is who did those things to her? Was it someone she knew? Had that person been watching her? Was this all really the result of chance and opportunity? One can hope that these questions, and more, will be answered one day but with each passing day the possibility that they never will be becomes all the more real.
It has been 24 years since Amber Hagerman was abducted and murdered yet her legacy lives on.
Amber’s abduction and murder was the impetus for the creation for the AMBER Alert System. This is a coordinated effort between law enforcement, radio, television, and cellphone broadcast systems to alert the general public in the region of an abduction to the incident and any information that law enforcement has on the abduction such as their physical description as well as the description of the vehicle they were last seen with. This system has resulted in the safe return of almost 1,000 children in the United States since its inception as a regional program in 1997, then national (and international) in 2000 however it is also under scrutiny for saving so few and being so annoying as an alert results in an alarm blaring through the device that receives it, and for saving so few. Critics question whether it saving just one life is worth it, is saving so few worth it?
I say yes.

The Abduction and Murder of Amber Hagerman

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Extra info or particulars:
I do live driving distance from micro center in Tustin. I absolutely NEED 2 thunderbolt 3 ports, but 4 is ideal. As many cores that can fit in my budget is better. Maybe a 32 core thread ripper?

Everything You Need to Know About NFR

Beyond the payouts for the Cowboys, the PRCA estimates that the event brings in about $90 million annually to the Las Vegas economy. Furthermore, recent attendance stats have shown that 177,565 rodeo enthusiasts decked out in Wrangler jeans, Justin boots and cowboy hats attended events at the Thomas & Mack with an additional 40,000 fans who watched at the 40 hotels who hosted watch parties. It is during this rare time of the year that many marquees on the Strip have the face of bull riders replace DJs’ faces.

Main Performance

Seven main events have historically taken place at the NFR. Each event has its own monetary prizes that are paid out, and those payouts are determined by each top-placing competitor’s rank in relation to the event’s overall prize pool. Individuals placed in the top-six of a particular event are paid out accordingly, while individuals placed in the top-eight of the overall NFR are also paid out. The NFR’s main events are as follows:
  • Bareback Riding
  • This consists of a horseback cowboy using a bareback rigging as the primary means of staying on top of the horse. This grip has often been compared to the equivalent of hanging on to a suitcase handle and makes for the only support that a cowboy has on top of the wildly bucking horse. An 8-second ride constitutes a qualified ride and the cowboys is judged on riding technique.
  • Steer Wrestling
  • This act involves a horseback steer wrestler, alternatively known as a “bulldogger”, bringing a fast-moving steer to a halt on its back as fast as possible. The bulldogger utilizes a combination of strength, technique, speed, and precision to jump off of their horse from a designated starting point and onto a steer sprinting off from the same starting point.
  • Team Roping
  • Headers
  • One of two horseback team members whose job is to successfully rope the head of the steer in one of three tries as fast as possible; around both horns, around one horn and the head, or around the neck.
  • Heelers
  • One of two horseback team members whose job is to successfully rope the hind legs of the steer as soon as the header has successfully done their part. To avoid a 5-second penalty for roping only one hind leg, the heeler must rope both hind legs.
  • Saddle Bron Riding
  • Similar to Bareback Riding, the goal of the horseback cowboy is to maintain their balance as much as possible for 8 seconds while the horse is bucking. In this event, however, the cowboy sits on a saddle while using one hand to hold on to a thick rein that’s attached to the horse’s halter.
  • Tie-Down Roping
  • This event centers around a cowboy on horseback attempting to restrain a calf by throwing a well-timed rope loop that’s attached to the cowboy’s horse. The cowboy and the calf both leave from a designated starting point, with the calf getting a slight head-start. The cowboy depends on the horse to mitigate any slack in the rope after dismounting, then proceeds to tie-up the calf as fast as possible.
  • Barrel Racing
  • This is a women’s event where horseback cowgirls race against the clock to complete a strategically set course where barrels are set up as landmarks. The intent is for the cowgirls to complete a cloverleaf-shaped run around 3 barrels placed in a triangular formation as fast as possible. Barrels that are accidentally knocked over result in 5-second penalties.
  • Bull Riding
  • The cowboy on top of the bull has the main objective of staying on top and maintaining their balance for 8 seconds. They are judged based on technique and can earn extra points by spurring while the bull is bucking. The cowboy stays on top of the bull by grasping a flat braided rope, which also wraps around the bull’s chest.
  • All-Around Champion
  • Being crowned the All-Around Champion speaks volumes about the versatility and high level of talent exhibited by the winning cowboy. In order to receive this honor, the cowboy must have won the most prize money in a given year and competed in at least 2 NFR events while earning at least $3,000 in each of those events. This is widely known as the highest honor bestowed by the PRCA.

Contestants

There are 120 cowboys from all over the United States that will step foot as competitors within the NFR. A full list of the contestants can be found on the event’s Contestant Roster page. The top 10 ranked competitors are as follows:
  1. Tuf Cooper – Tie-Down Roping
  2. Trevor Brazile – Tie-Down Roping
  3. Sage Kimzey – Bull Riding
  4. Tim O’Connell – Bareback Riding
  5. Jacobs Crawley – Saddle Bronc Riding
  6. Caleb Bennett – Bareback Riding
  7. Ryder Wright – Saddle Bronc Riding
  8. Rhen Richard – Team Roping (Header)
  9. Shane Hanchey – Tie-Down Roping
  10. Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi – Barrel Racing

Super Bowl of Rodeo

The NFR has consistently been referred to with this phrase because of the sheer massiveness of its popularity and money-generating power within the context of rodeo. The event is considered to be so big and consistently sold-out that the UNLV basketball team that normally uses the NFR’s venue during the season has to annually build its schedule in a way that keeps the team on the road for the duration of the NFR festivities.

Miss Rodeo America

This event is a pageant that takes place in conjunction with the NFR as part of the NFR’s overall festivities. State rodeo queen winners from across the United States compete for the Miss Rodeo America crown and put themselves in line to potentially win $20,000, among other smaller prizes. In addition to the prizes, the winner is expected to travel to various rodeos throughout the United States and to promote the rodeo during the subsequent year.

Wrangler NFR Preshow

The former Miss Rodeo America titleholder is no stranger to the excitement of the “Super Bowl” of Western competition, with six years of WNFR reporting under her belt. She is most excited about bringing the pre-show to the fans. Be prepared for this Wrangler NFR Preshow, don’t miss a single moment of the Pro Rodeo live action.

Cowboy Christmas

For those that need a break from the constant adrenaline that comes with the NFR’s main events, the Cowboy Christmas experience allows for a welcomed change of pace. This portion of NFR centers around cowboy shopping and serves as a marketplace for hundreds of exhibitors from the United States and Canada to sell to thousands of eager buyers. Typically taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Cowboy Christmas will also move to Arlington, TX in 2020. All exhibitors will have the opportunity to Opt-In/Opt-Out for 2020.

Standings

The 2019 PRCA season has been extremely competitive as a lot of the top cowboys are gunning for glory. Tuf Cooper sits atop of the all-around standings and many experts believe that he is going to win his second all-around title in a row. There will be a lot of close competitions and many of the world championships could come down to the last day. You can check the current standings here.

NFR Prize Money

The total payout for the entire event is $10 million and will remain at that amount until 2020. After that, the amount will be adjusted and remain in place for the subsequent five years. All 120 qualifying contestants receive $10,000 as part of participating. This year’s detailed payout structure can be found on the PRCA’s 2019 Wrangler NFR Payoff page.

2020.09.21 02:47 Leather_Term Meet Brock Pierce, the Presidential Candidate With Ties to Pedophiles Who Wants to End Human Trafficking

thedailybeast.com Sep. 20, 2020.
The “Mighty Ducks” actor is running for president. He clears the air (sort of) to Tarpley Hitt about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein and more.
In the trailer for First Kid, the forgettable 1996 comedy about a Secret Service agent assigned to protect the president’s son, the title character, played by a teenage Brock Pierce, describes himself as “definitely the most powerful kid in the universe.” Now, the former child star is running to be the most powerful man in the world, as an Independent candidate for President of the United States.
Before First Kid, the Minnesota-born actor secured roles in a series of PG-rated comedies, playing a young Emilio Estevez in The Mighty Ducks, before graduating to smaller parts in movies like Problem Child 3: Junior in Love. When his screen time shrunk, Pierce retired from acting for a real executive role: co-founding the video production start-up Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) alongside businessman Marc Collins-Rector. At age 17, Pierce served as its vice president, taking in a base salary of $250,000.
DEN became “the poster child for dot-com excesses,” raising more than $60 million in seed investments and plotting a $75 million IPO. But it turned into a shorthand for something else when, in October of 1999, the three co-founders suddenly resigned. That month, a New Jersey man filed a lawsuit alleging Collins-Rector had molested him for three years beginning when he was 13 years old. The following summer, three teens filed a sexual-abuse lawsuit against Pierce, Collins-Rector, and their third co-founder, Chad Shackley. The plaintiffs later dropped their case against Pierce (he made a payment of $21,600 to one of their lawyers) and Shackley. But after a federal grand jury indicted Collins-Rector on criminal charges in 2000, the DEN founders left the country. When Interpol arrested them in 2002, they said they had confiscated “guns, machetes, and child pornography” from the trio’s beach villa in Spain.
While abroad, Pierce had pivoted to a new venture: Internet Gaming Entertainment, which sold virtual accessories in multiplayer online role-playing games to those desperate to pay, as one Wired reporter put it, “as much as $1,800 for an eight-piece suit of Skyshatter chain mail” rather than earn it in the games themselves. In 2005, a 25-year-old Pierce hired then-Goldman Sachs banker Steve Bannon—just before he would co-found Breitbart News. Two years later, after a World of Warcraft player sued the company for “diminishing” the fun of the game, Steve Bannon replaced Pierce as CEO.
Collins-Rector eventually pleaded guilty to eight charges of child enticement and registered as a sex offender. In the years that followed, Pierce waded into the gonzo economy of cryptocurrencies, where he overlapped more than once with Jeffrey Epstein, and counseled him on crypto. In that world, he founded Tether, a cryptocurrency that bills itself as a “stablecoin,” because its value is allegedly tied to the U.S. dollar, and the blockchain software company Block.one. Like his earlier businesses, Pierce’s crypto projects see-sawed between massive investments and curious deals. When Block.one announced a smart contract software called EOS.IO, the company raised $4 billion almost overnight, setting an all-time record before the product even launched. The Securities and Exchange Commission later fined the company $24 million for violating federal securities law. After John Oliver mocked the ordeal, calling Pierce a “sleepy, creepy cowboy,” Block.one fired him. Tether, meanwhile, is currently under investigation by the New York Attorney General for possible fraud.
On July 4, Pierce announced his candidacy for president. His campaign surrogates include a former Cambridge Analytica director and the singer Akon, who recently doubled down on developing an anonymously funded, $6 billion “Wakanda-like” metropolis in Senegal called Akon City. Pierce claims to be bipartisan, and from the 11 paragraphs on the “Policy” section of his website it can be hard to determine where he falls on the political spectrum. He supports legalizing marijuana and abolishing private prisons, but avoids the phrase “climate change.” He wants to end “human trafficking.” His proposal to end police brutality: body cams.
His political contributions tell a more one-sided story. Pierce’s sole Democratic contribution went to the short-lived congressional run of crypto candidate Brian Forde. The rest went to Republican campaigns like Marco Rubio, Rick Perry, John McCain, and the National Right to Life Political Action Committee. Last year alone, Pierce gave over $44,000 to the Republican National Committee and more than $55,000 to Trump’s re-election fund.
Pierce spoke to The Daily Beast from his tour bus and again over email. Those conversations have been combined and edited for clarity.
You’re announcing your presidential candidacy somewhat late, and historically, third-party candidates haven’t had the best luck with the executive office. If you don’t have a strong path to the White House, what do you want out of the race?
I announced on July 4, which I think is quite an auspicious date for an Independent candidate, hoping to bring independence to this country. There’s a lot of things that I can do. One is: I’m 39 years old. I turn 40 in November. So I’ve got time on my side. Whatever happens in this election cycle, I’m laying the groundwork for the future. The overall mission is to create a third major party—not another third party—a third major party in this country. I think that is what America needs most. George Washington in his closing address warned us about the threat of political parties. John Adams and the other founding fathers—their fear for our future was two political parties becoming dominant. And look at where we are. We were warned.
I believe, having studied systems, any time you have a system of two, what happens is those two things come together, like magnets. They come into collision, or they become polarized and become completely divided. I think we need to rise above partisan politics and find a path forward together. As Albert Einstein is quoted—I’m not sure the line came from him, but he’s quoted in many places—he said that the definition of insanity is making the same mistake or doing the same thing over and over and over again, expecting a different result. [Ed. note: Einstein never said this.] It feels like that’s what our election cycle is like. Half the country feels like they won, half the country feels like they lost, at least if they voted or participated.
Obviously, there’s another late-comer to the presidential race, and that’s Kanye West. He’s received a lot of flak for his candidacy, as he’s openly admitted to trying to siphon votes away from Joe Biden to ensure a Trump victory. Is that something you’re hoping to avoid or is that what you’re going for as well?
Oh no. This is a very serious campaign. Our campaign is very serious. You’ll notice I don’t say anything negative about either of the two major political candidates, because I think that’s one of the problems with our political system, instead of people getting on stage, talking about their visionary ideas, inspiring people, informing and educating, talking about problems, mentioning problems, talking about solutions, constructive criticism. That’s why I refuse to run a negative campaign. I am definitely not a spoiler. I’m into data, right? I’m a technologist. I’ve got digital DNA. So does most of our campaign team. We’ve got our finger on the pulse.
Most of my major Democratic contacts are really happy to see that we’re running in a red state like Wyoming. Kanye West’s home state is Wyoming. He’s not on the ballot in Wyoming I could say, in part, because he didn’t have Akon on his team. But I could also say that he probably didn’t want to be on the ballot in Wyoming because it’s a red state. He doesn’t want to take additional points in a state where he’s only running against Trump. But we’re on the ballot in Wyoming, and since we’re on the ballot in Wyoming I think it’s safe—more than safe, I think it’s evident—that we are not here to run as a spoiler for the benefit of Donald Trump.
In running for president, you’ve opened yourself up to be scrutinized from every angle going back to the beginning of your career. I wanted to ask you about your time at the Digital Entertainment Network. Can you tell me a little bit about how you started there? You became a vice president as a teenager. What were your qualifications and what was your job exactly?
Well, I was the co-founder. A lot of it was my idea. I had an idea that people would use the internet to watch videos, and we create content for the internet. The idea was basically YouTube and Hulu and Netflix. Anyone that was around in the ‘90s and has been around digital media since then, they all credit us as the creators of basically those ideas. I was just getting a message from the creator of The Vandals, the punk rock band, right before you called. He’s like, “Brock, looks like we’re going to get the Guinness Book of World Records for having created the first streaming television show.”
We did a lot of that stuff. We had 30 television shows. We had the top most prestigious institutions in the world as investors. The biggest names. High-net-worth investors like Terry Semel, who’s chairman and CEO of Warner Brothers, and became the CEO of Yahoo. I did all sorts of things. I helped sell $150,000 worth of advertising contracts to the CEOs of Pepsi and everything else. I was the face of the company, meeting all the major banks and everything else, selling the vision of what the future was.
You moved in with Marc Collins-Rector and Chad Shackley at a mansion in Encino. Was that the headquarters of the business?
All start-ups, they normally start out in your home. Because it’s just you. The company was first started out of Marc’s house, and it was probably there for the first two or three months, before the company got an office. That’s, like, how it is for all start-ups.
were later a co-defendant in the L.A. County case filed against Marc Collins-Rector for plying minors with alcohol and drugs, in order to facilitate sexual abuse. You were dropped from the case, but you settled with one of the men for $21,600. Can you explain that?
Okay, well, first of all, that’s not accurate. Two of the plaintiffs in that case asked me if I would be a plaintiff. Because I refused to be a part of the lawsuit, they chose to include me to discredit me, to make their case stronger. They also went and offered 50 percent of what they got to the house management—they went around and offered money to anyone to participate in this. They needed people to corroborate their story. Eventually, because I refused to participate in the lawsuit, they named me. Subsequently, all three of the plaintiffs apologized to me, in front of audiences, in front of many people, saying Brock never did anything. They dismissed their cases.
Remember, this is a civil thing. I’ve never been charged with a crime in my life. And the last plaintiff to have his case dismissed, he contacted his lawyer and said, “Dismiss this case against Brock. Brock never did anything. I just apologized. Dismiss his case.” And the lawyer said, “No. I won’t dismiss this case, I have all these out-of-pocket expenses, I refuse to file the paperwork unless you give me my out-of-pocket expenses.” And so the lawyer, I guess, had $21,000 in bills. So I paid his lawyer $21,000—not him, it was not a settlement. That was a payment to his lawyer for his out-of-pocket expenses. Out-of-pocket expenses so that he would file the paperwork to dismiss the case.
You’ve said the cases were unfounded, and the plaintiffs eventually apologized. But your boss, Marc Collins-Rector later pleaded guilty to eight charges of child enticement and registered as a sex offender. Were you aware of his behavior? How do you square the fact that later allegations proved to be true, but these ones were not?
Well, remember: I was 16 and 17 years old at the time? So, no. I don’t think Marc is the man they made him out to be. But Marc is not a person I would associate with today, and someone I haven’t associated with in a very long time. I was 16 and 17. I chose the wrong business partner. You live and you learn.
You’ve pointed out that you were underage when most of these allegations were said to take place. Did you ever feel like you were coerced or in over your head while working at DEN?
I mean, I was working 18 hours a day, doing things I’d never done before. It was business school. But I definitely learned a lot in building that company. We raised $88 million. We filed our [form] S-1 to go public. We were the hottest start-up in Los Angeles.
In 2000, you left the country with Marc Collins-Rector. Why did you leave? How did you spend those two years abroad?
I moved to Spain in 1999 for personal reasons. I spent those two years in Europe working on developing my businesses.
Interpol found you in 2002. The house where you were staying reportedly contained guns, machetes, and child pornography. Whose guns and child porn were those? Were you aware they were in the house, and how did those get there?
My lawyers have addressed this in 32 pages of documentation showing a complete absence of wrongdoing. Please refer to my webpage for more information.
[Ed. Note: The webpage does not mention guns, machetes, or child pornography. It does state:“It is true that when the local police arrested Collins-Rector in Spain in 2002 on an international warrant, Mr. Pierce was also taken into custody, but so was everyone at Collins-Rector’s house in Spain; and it is equally clear that Brock was promptly released, and no charges of any kind were ever filed against Brock concerning this matter.”]
What do you make of the allegations against Bryan Singer? [Ed. Note: Bryan Singer, a close friend of Collins-Rector, invested at least $50,000 in DEN. In an Atlantic article outlining Singer’s history of alleged sexual assault and statutory rape, one source claimed that at age 15, Collins-Rector abused him and introduced him to Singer, who then assaulted him in the DEN headquarters.]
I am aware of them and I support of all victims of sexual assault. I will let America’s justice system decide on Singer’s outcome.
In 2011, you spoke at the Mindshift conference supported by Jeffrey Epstein. At that point, he had already been convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor. Why did you agree to speak?
I had never heard of Jeffrey Epstein. His name was not on the website. I was asked to speak at a conference alongside Nobel Prize winners. It was not a cryptocurrency conference, it was filled with Nobel Prize winners. I was asked to speak alongside Nobel Prize winners on the future of money. I speak at conferences historically, two to three times a week. I was like, “Nobel Prize winners? Sounds great. I’ll happily talk about the future of money with them.” I had no idea who Jeffrey Epstein was. His name was not listed anywhere on the website. Had I known what I know now? I clearly would have never spoken there. But I spoke at a conference that he cosponsored.
What’s your connection to the Clinton Global Initiative? Did you hear about it through Jeffrey Epstein?
I joined the Clinton Global Initiative as a philanthropist in 2006 and was a member for one year. My involvement with the Initiative had no connection to Jeffrey Epstein whatsoever.
You’ve launched your campaign in Minnesota, where George Floyd was killed by a police officer. How do you feel about the civil uprising against police brutality?
I’m from Minnesota. Born and raised. We just had a press conference there, announcing that we’re on the ballot. Former U.S. Senator Dean Barkley was there. So that tells you, when former U.S. Senators are endorsing the candidate, right?
[Ed. note: Barkley was never elected to the United States Senate. In November of 2002, he was appointed by then Minnesota Governor Jesse Venture to fill the seat after Sen. Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash. Barkley’s term ended on Jan. 3, 2003—two months later.]
Yes, George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis. My vice-presidential running mate Karla Ballard and I, on our last trip to Minnesota together, went to visit the George Floyd Memorial. I believe in law and order. I believe that law and order is foundational to any functioning society. But there is no doubt in my mind that we need reform. These types of events—this is not an isolated incident. This has happened many times before. It’s time for change. We have a lot of detail around policy on this issue that we will be publishing next week. Not just high-level what we think, not just a summary, but detailed policy.
You said that you support “law and order.” What does that mean?
“Law and order” means creating a fair and just legal system where our number one priority is protecting the inalienable rights of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” for all people. This means reforming how our police intervene in emergency situations, abolishing private prisons that incentivize mass incarceration, and creating new educational and economic opportunities for our most vulnerable communities. I am dedicated to preventing crime by eliminating the socioeconomic conditions that encourage it.
I support accountability and transparency in government and law enforcement. Some of the key policies I support are requiring body-cams on all law enforcement officers who engage with the public, curtailing the 1033 program that provides local law enforcement agencies with access to military equipment, and abolishing private prisons. Rather than simply defund the police, my administration will take a holistic approach to heal and unite America by ending mass incarceration, police brutality, and racial injustice.
Did you attend any Black Lives Matter protests?
I support all movements aimed at ending racial injustice and inequality. I have not attended any Black Lives Matter protests. My running-mate, Karla Ballard, attended the March on Washington in support of racial justice and equality.
Your platform doesn’t mention the words “climate change.” Is there a reason for that?
I’m not sure what you mean. Our policy platform specifically references human-caused climate change and we have a plan to restabilize the climate, address environmental degradation, and ensure environmental sustainability.
[Ed. Note: As of writing the Pierce campaign’s policy platform does not specifically reference human-caused climate change.]
You’ve recently brought on Akon as a campaign surrogate. How did that happen? Tell me about that.
Akon and I have been friends for quite some time. I was one of the guys that taught him about Bitcoin. I helped make some videogames for him, I think in 2012. We were talking about Bitcoin, teaching him the ropes, back in 2013. And in 2014, we were both speaking at the Milken Global Conference, and I encouraged him to talk about how Bitcoin, Africa, changed the world. He became the biggest celebrity in the world, talking about Bitcoin at the time. I’m an adviser to his Akoin project, very interested in the work that he’s doing to build a city in Africa.
I think we need a government that’s of, for, and by the people. Akon has huge political aspirations. He obviously was a hugely successful artist. But he also discovered artists like Lady Gaga. So not only is he, himself, a great artist, but he’s also a great identifier and builder of other artists. And he’s been a great businessman, philanthropist. He’s pushing the limits of what can be done. We’re like-minded individuals in that regard. I think he’ll be running for political office one day, because he sees what I see: that we need real change, and we need a government that is of, for, and by the people.
You mentioned that you’re an adviser on Akoin. Do you have any financial investments in Akoin or Akon City?
I don’t believe so. I’d have to check. I have so much stuff. But I don’t believe that I have any economic interests in his stuff. I’d have to verify that. We’ll get back to you. I don’t believe that I have any economic interests. My interest is in helping him. He’s a visionary with big ideas that wants to help things in the world. If I can be of assistance in helping him make the world a better place, I’m all for it. I’m not motivated by money. I’m not running for office because I’m motivated by power. I’m running for office because I’m deeply, deeply concerned about our collective future.
You’ve said you’re running on a pro-technology platform. One week into your campaign last month, a New York appeals court approved the state Attorney General’s attempt to investigate the stablecoin Tether for potentially fraudulent activity. Do you think this will impact your ability to sell people on your tech entrepreneurship?
No, I think my role in Tether is as awesome as it gets. It was my idea. I put it together. But I’ve had no involvement in the company since 2015. I gave all of my equity to the other shareholders. I’ve had zero involvement in the company for almost six years. It was just my idea. I put the initial team together. But I think Tether is one of the most important innovations in the world, certainly. The idea is, I digitized the U.S. dollar. I used technology to digitize currency—existing currency. The U.S. dollar in particular. It’s doing $10 trillion a year. Ten trillion dollars a year of transactional volume. It’s probably the most important innovation in currency since the advent of fiat money. The people that took on the business and ran the business in years to come, they’ve done things I’m not proud of. I’m not sure they’ve done anything criminal. But they certainly did things differently than I would do. But it’s like, you have kids, they turn 18, they go out into the world, and sometimes you’re proud of the things they do, and sometimes you shake your head and go, “Ugh, why did you do that?” I have zero concerns as it relates to me personally. I wish they made better decisions.
What do you think the investigation will find?
I have no idea. The problem that was raised is that there was a $5 million loan between two entities and whether or not they had the right to do that, did they disclose it correctly. There’s been no accusations of, like, embezzlement or anything that bad.
[Ed. Note: The Attorney General’s press release on the investigation reads: “Our investigation has determined that the operators of the ‘Bitfinex’ trading platform, who also control the ‘tether’ virtual currency, have engaged in a cover-up to hide the apparent loss of $850 million dollars of co-mingled client and corporate funds.”]
But there’s been some disclosure things, that is the issue. No one is making any outrageous claims that these are people that have done a bunch of bad—well, on the internet, the media has said that the people behind the business may have been manipulating the price of Bitcoin, but I don’t think that has anything to do with the New York investigation. Again, I’m so not involved, and so not at risk, that I’m not even up to speed on the details.
[Ed note: A representative of the New York State Attorney General told Forbes that he “cannot confirm or deny that the investigation” includes Pierce.]
We’ve recently witnessed the rise of QAnon, the conspiracy theory that Hollywood is an evil cabal of Satanic pedophiles and Trump is the person waging war on them. You mentioned human trafficking, which has become a cause for them. What are your thoughts on that?
I’ve watched some of the content. I think it’s an interesting phenomenon. I’m an internet person, so Anonymous is obviously an organization that has been doing interesting stuff. It’s interesting. I don’t have a big—conspiracy theory stuff is—I guess I have a question for you: What do you think of all of it, since you’re the expert?
You know, I think it’s not true, but I’m not running for president. I do wonder what this politician [Georgia congressional candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene], who’s just won her primary, is going to do on day one, once she finds out there’s no satanic cabal room.
Wait, someone was running for office and won on a QAnon platform, saying that Hollywood did—say what? You’re the expert here.
She won a primary. But I want to push on if we only have a few minutes. In 2006, your gaming company IGE brought on Steve Bannon as an investor. Goldman later bought out most of your stock. Bannon eventually replaced you as CEO of Affinity. You’ve described him as your “right-hand man for, like, seven years.” How well did you know Bannon during that time?
Yes, so this is in my mid-twenties. He wasn’t an investor. He worked for me. He was my banker. He worked for me for three years as my yield guide. And then he was my CEO running the company for another four years. So I haven’t worked with Steve for a decade or so. We worked in videogame stuff and banking. He was at Goldman Sachs. He was not in the political area at the time. But he was a pretty successful banker. He set up Goldman Sachs Los Angeles. So for me, I’d say he did a pretty good job.
During your business relationship, Steve Bannon founded Breitbart News, which has pretty consistently published racist material. How do you feel about Breitbart?
I had no involvement with Breitbart News. As for how I feel about such material, I’m not pleased by any form of hate-mongering. I strongly support the equality of all Americans.
Did you have qualms about Bannon’s role in the 2016 election?
Bannon’s role in the Trump campaign got me to pay closer attention to what he was doing but that’s about it. Whenever you find out that one of your former employees has taken on a role like that, you pay attention.
Bannon served on the board of Cambridge Analytica. A staffer on your campaign, Brittany Kaiser, also served as a business director for them. What are your thoughts on their use of illicitly-obtained Facebook data for campaign promotional material?
Yes, so this will be the last question I can answer because I’ve got to be off for this 5:00 pm. But Brittany Kaiser is a friend of mine. She was the whistleblower of Cambridge Analytica. She came to me and said, “What do I do?” And I said, “Tell the truth. The truth will set you free.”
[Ed. Note: Investigations in Cambridge Analytica took place as early as Nov. 2017, when a U.K. reporter at Channel 4 News recorded their CEO boasting about using “beautiful Ukranian girls” and offers of bribes to discredit political officials. The first whistleblower was Christopher Wylie, who disclosed a cache of documents to The Guardian, published on Mar. 17, 2018. Kaiser’s confession ran five days later, after the scandal made national news. Her association with Cambridge Analytica is not mentioned anywhere on Pierce’s campaign website.]
So I’m glad that people—I’m a supporter of whistleblowers, people that see injustice in the world and something not right happening, and who put themselves in harm’s way to stand up for what they believe in. So I stand up for Brittany Kaiser.
Who do you think [anonymous inventor of Bitcoin] Satoshi Nakamoto is?
We all are Satoshi Nakamoto.
You got married at Burning Man. Have you been attending virtual Burning Man?
I’m running a presidential campaign. So, while I was there in spirit, unfortunately my schedule did not permit me to attend.

2020.09.18 02:02 OTSPOKN 8ight After: if you don't believe, then you have nothing to fear - With Photos -- Part 2

Part 1 of 3
Part 3 of 3

It's here

Tuesday October 8, 2019
As I return home from walking Tica and Pismo, a high pitch voice yells my name. I turn, and there she is, filled with cheer. Christina skips her way to me and begs to play with the dogs. Her big brown eyes are sadder than my Labradors. The pups seem to love her, so I cave.
Deanna arrives home from work and is disappointed when the dogs aren't there to greet her at the door. It gets worse when she discovers it's because they're playing with Christina on our patio.
I try to reason with Deanna, "What am I supposed to do? She followed us home on the dog walk again."
"Well, how would you like it if some challenged guy followed me home?"
"Does he have, like super special strength or something?" I get side-eyed at this and go on to explain, "I don't want to be mean because she's special."
"She's also very pretty."
"So she's pretty special!" I joke. Deanna is not amused.
I have a talk with Christina to tell her she can't come over anymore. I tell her no more dog walks. "Why?" she pleads. I explain that she doesn't have a dog, so it's like she is just walking with me. She seems to understand. She even utters the words, "I crossed a line."
Back in the house I find Deanna in her office. She tells me she wants to get a gun. I'm like, What? First religion, now guns; she really has swung right.
I'm not anti-gun, we've just never felt a need to own one. I have an alarm on the house, a nice fence, two barking dogs, and 16 security cameras. That should scare any intruder away. If someone gets past that, and I need to pull a gun, then that intruder is probably intent on killing me and has already formulated a plan that they will most likely succeed with.
Let's face it. I know this is a sad thought, but if someone wants to kill you, they will. A gun will do you no good. I'm not afraid of guns. We've fired guns before, but I always felt that if I don't buy one, then that's one less gun in the world. But now Deanna is talking all kinds of crazy.
I veer the subject away from guns and try to convince her to sleep in our bedroom tonight. The last four nights she's slept on the couch in her office. Instead, she convinces me to sleep on the pull-out couch in here with her. I agree, figuring this will blow over in a day or two.
That night, I get into bed, and Deanna reads a Bible verse. I kid you not, she has a Bible in hand and reads, "Keep this book of the law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:08."
I'm like, "Where did you get a Bible?" She says she found the book out back and thinks it's Christina's. I don't really want to have the Christina conversation, nor do I want to have a biblical conversation, so I just let it pass. We exchange good night kisses and go to sleep.
Wednesday October 9, 2019
As I write today's journal, I pull up the security footage from last night to transcribe Deanna's Bible quote correctly.
I open files, hunting for the right one. I notice the door is closed in some videos and open in others. I narrow it down to the last clip with an open door. As the clip plays the door slowly closes for no apparent reason. Next, to my horror, the sheets around Deanna's feet flutter, then with a quick whoosh they blow off her. Deanna kicks. She sits up, gets out of bed, kneels and prays over me. I click through a bunch of clips and find that she prayed for over an hour before finally getting back into bed.
Surveillance Footage capture of Deanna praying over Vince.
When Deanna gets home from work, I show her the clip of her praying. She's frightened by it and starts to sob. She begs to know if she's ever done that before. I tell her I don't know and that there's a ton of footage to sift through. I decide, maybe mistakenly, to not show her the door close and the sheet flutter. I worry it will only scare her more.
That night, she pops sleeping pills before bed. Her rationale is that they'll put her into a deep sleep; this way, she won't be able to get up and pray.
After struggling to fall asleep myself, I finally nod off, only to be woken by a door slam. I spring up and turn to the closed door. I'm sure it was open when we went to bed. Deanna is still sound asleep and doesn't move. I climb out the foot of the bed and slowly creep my way to the door. I kneel down to peek through the threshold crack to see if someone is on the other side. I can't make anything out. I stand up and reach for the knob. The door opens on its own. I stop to consider that maybe the latch didn't catch from the slam. Sometimes doors do that, right? I peek out through the open crack, half-expecting to see someone standing there. There isn't.
I tiptoe out and turn on the hall light. I peer into my office and flip on that light. It's clear. A noise emits from the hall. I follow it, but it subsides. Again I hear something; this time from the game room. I flick on that light and scan the room. Nothing. I canvass the house room-by-room; everything is clear. I find the dogs asleep in our bedroom. They seem safe and happy in there. Why doesn't Deanna? I double-check the alarm and make sure the front door is locked. The house is secure. I head back to Deanna's office. She's still sound asleep. I examine the door. It swings freely and appears to be fine. I can't find any reason it would slam. I leave the hall light on and climb back into bed.
Thursday October 10, 2019
I pull up the security footage from last night and see the sheets flutter again. This time Deanna's body sorta jolts like she got an electrical zap. A moment later she is pulled into the bed or possibly pushed. I notice something in the hall. There seems to be a figure moving on the far wall, but I can't focus on it. When I play the footage back slowly, I don't see anything, but at regular speed, something is there. I let the video play, and suddenly a shadow sweeps across the door. This one is easy to see, even as a still frame. A moment later, the door slams.
Surveillance Footage capture of Deanna and Vince sleeping as a human looking shadow passes over the white bedroom door.
I scan through the rest of last night's footage, but see nothing else. I don't know how to process this. My mind oscillates between reason and what I'm seeing. Who do I show the video to? The police? The news? My friends? People will assume I faked this. I certainly can't show Deanna. She'll flip out.
I decide it's best to first build a case. I need a substantial amount of undeniable proof before I show this stuff around. I have 16 cameras running 24 hours a day for 7 days, which is 2,688 hours of footage to comb through. That's an impossible amount for me to tackle. I decide to back up the last 7 days of surveillance footage to another drive. I turn to my journals and figure I can compile a record of any unusual events. I can use these records to narrow down which surveillance files might be worth examining.
Michael arrives and interrupts my hunt. He's here to test out my gimbal. He played with it a bit at the BBQ, and now he's considering purchasing one. I contemplate showing him the footage; surely he'll believe me, but then, shouldn't I have believed Deanna?
First, I test the waters and ask if he believes in God. He doesn't. He says he's unconvinced. I expected this, as we had this conversation years ago, and since that time, neither of us has been particularly religious. However, Michael became an online ordained reverend and has performed a few wedding ceremonies for his friends; thus, I wasn't sure if his views changed.
He did say he thought God was an "unfalsifiable hypothesis," and compared him to Santa Claus. I don't know what that means, but I'm pretty sure I don't want to show him the footage yet - at least not until I get a better understanding of how to explain things.
We head out to the parking lot so he can run around with the gimbal and test its smoothness. The gardener's truck is there, and I can hear Juan's blower polluting the air with noise. Thankfully, we aren't testing any audio equipment.
Michael runs through the open gate toward the pool. He goes around the pool and onto our wooden deck, which overlooks the dry Los Angeles River below. He yells for me, "Come quick, the gardener has fallen off the deck!" Alarmed, I sprint.
Camera VLOG still of broken deck with gardener laying at bottom of hill.
Michael is already at the bottom of the hill by the time I begin my descent. The wooden deck rail is broken and partially hanging off. It's probably a fifteen-foot fall to where Juan has landed. I climb down to find Juan unconscious on his back. He might have hit his head on a paver stone, but there's no blood.
I grab Juan's chest and shake him. I think he's alive. I hope he's alive. I need him to be alive. I realize I ran down with my iced coffee in hand. I quickly pop the lid off and throw it in Juan's face. The coffee flows up his nose, causing him to choke to consciousness. I grab his head to cradle him and finally exhale a sigh of relief.
After a few minutes, Juan sits up. Michael runs to fetch him water while I stay behind. His English is broken, but he explains he was blowing the deck when he leaned back and fell. He blames himself. I'm confused, as the deck has plenty of nails holding it together. It's never been flimsy before. I offer to take him to the hospital; he refuses. I offer again; he says to call his brother. I take his phone and call.
He speaks to his brother in Spanish. It sounds like they argue. Juan hangs up. I ask if everything is okay; he nods, then stands up, but quickly gets woozy and slumps back down. I catch him and ease him back to the dirt. He laughs embarrassingly. Michael gets back with water and Gatorade. Juan drinks up and rests. We sit and rehash the events that just transpired, as if we're telling old war stories.
After a while, Juan stands again. He's fine now. He stretches. Michael and I exchange looks. Should we take him to the hospital? At that moment, his brother, Cruz, appears at the top of the deck, looking down. Spanish is exchanged again, along with a chuckle. Juan translates. He says Cruz is asking why he broke the deck and says Juan will have to pay for it. I shake my head no and assure them everything is fine. Cruz chuckles; it seems like it was just fun brotherly harassment.
We get Juan back to his truck. Both he and his brother insist everything is okay. They will be okay. Surprisingly, Juan does look okay. I tell them both to call me if they need anything and they leave.
Michael and I go back to the deck to marvel at how Juan could take a fall like that and live. We also ponder how big a lawsuit this could be if he'd died.
Later, I recount the events for Deanna. She's blown away. I offhandedly remark, "Thank God he's going to be okay."
Surprisingly, Deanna retorts, "Wouldn't God have saved him?"
I'm confused. I thought she was all "God power," but tonight she goes on to claim that she never really believed there was a God. I decide it's best not to indulge this conversation now.
Deanna is on edge all night. I put on Friends. The show always seems to cheer her up. Tonight, it doesn't. I know she's angry, but I can't actually point to a single thing, and if I do, it'll just spark a fight, which it seems is what she wants.
We sleep in her office again. I get the cold shoulder, as she rolls away from me without so much as a kiss. I wish her good night, and she does reciprocate, so maybe all isn't lost.
I lie there awake and listen to the silence. I focus on Deanna. The gentle rise and fall of her back, up and down, up and down; she is out. I contemplate staying up all night to comb through the security footage. I think about the shadow. I keep watching the door, wondering if it will appear. I think about Juan. I hope he's okay. At some point I nod off, but suddenly I'm jarred awake. Deanna gasps for air as if she just broke free from drowning.
I'm dazed. My eyes are heavy and won't open. Is this a dream? Is everything a dream? I ask if she's okay, but I'm also not sure if asking is a dream. I manage to pry open my eyes. My head clears as I see Deanna exit the room. She hobbles like Frankenstein's monster. I get up to follow her. I call out her name. She doesn't answer. I'm getting creeped out.
I follow her into the dark hall and switch on the light. She hobbles down the hall toward the foyer. I wave my hand in front of her with no reaction. Her eyes are open, but she doesn't see me. She is sleepwalking.
Surveillance Footage capture of Vince waving his hand in front of sleepwalking Deanna
I have never seen this in my life. I always thought this was a Hollywood gimmick, but here she is hobbling around the house, eyes open and unconscious. I stay near her in case she falls or collapses. I wonder, do sleepwalkers collapse?
Deanna approaches the alarm panel and keys in the disarm code. Maybe she's messing with me? Sleepwalking is one thing, but how is she conscious enough to key in the code? She turns and hobbles back down the hall. I reset the alarm, then follow her.
She heads to the game room sliding glass door. I grab the door handle to stop her from opening the slider. She hobbles right into the glass. Not hard. Not like she could break it. It's a slow hobble into the door, as if she was going to pass through it, but instead the glass blocks her. She tries repeatedly like a wind up toy banging her head on the door with a light thud.
I always heard you shouldn't mess with a sleepwalker, but I place my hand between her head and the glass. I reach for her shoulder and nudge her. She is receptive to my guidance. I lead her back to her office.
I get her to sit on the bed and lean her over to lie down. I gather the covers, when suddenly she wakes. She screams! I scream and jump back. At that moment the alarm sounds. I look at Deanna; she's confused. I'm confused. The alarm is blaring. I head out of the room to the alarm panel. I key in the disarm code. The display shows Game Room Slider as the fault.
I rush back to the game room, and the slider is open a good three feet! I get angry. I don't know why. I'm mad the door is open, since it shouldn't be. I close the slider and make sure it's locked. I turn on all the lights in the house and reset the alarm. I canvass the house, room by room, and I look in each closet. The dogs hibernate in our bedroom; they don't seem to want to leave that room.
I find nothing. Deanna falls back to sleep. I stay up and watch Friends all night. When the sun rises, I finally pass out.

The Day After

Friday October 11, 2019
I wake up around noon. Deanna is home. I guess she skipped work. I head into my office to watch last night's footage. I speed past Deanna sleepwalking and go to the game room slider. I'm aghast. The door just floats open on its own. I can't explain it.
Deanna watches over my shoulder. She's still angry, I think. She seems stiff, almost robotic. She's more concerned with her sleepwalking than the slider and wants me to go back to that footage. I continue to examine the slider though. I just can't figure this out.
I hear a noise coming from the game room. Deanna hears it too. We proceed to investigate. I peer into the game room. The noise comes from outside the slider. It's Christina playing with the dogs on the patio. Now Deanna is definitely pissed. Suddenly, I'm pissed too.
Deanna storms out onto the patio, grabs up Tica and leads Pismo into the house. There's a third dog on the patio, a little Chihuahua that I've never seen before.
Groggy, confused, and mad, I yell at Christina. She claims I told her if she got a dog, she could come over, so she got one. I tell her she's trespassing, that we have cameras, that she has to go. She scoops up the little dog and storms off, crying. I feel really bad, but what alternative do I have?
I go back inside and catch Deanna in her office with a gun. She sees me coming and quickly sits on it in an attempt to conceal the weapon. I go for it, and we struggle. She puts up a fight, but I'm determined. I yank the gun out from under her.
"Where the hell did you get a gun?" I demand.
"I bought it."
"You brought a gun into our house?!"
"We need protection from crazy fans and doors opening up in the middle of the night. I don't know, maybe it was her, maybe she opened the door?"
I release the clip. The gun is loaded.
She quips, "The safety is on."
I explain if she wants to have a gun, then we need to learn how to use it properly.
I'm not happy about the gun. This is something we should have discussed and decided on together. She could argue that about me and the security cameras. I'm pretty sure they're not in the same league, but I feel like it's the least of my problems. The gun is already here, now I need to mitigate it, and that starts with lessons.

Today we meet our friend Wes at the shooting range. He is very proficient with guns and gives us the basic safety course. We shoot off a bunch of rounds. Deanna seems elated to be firing the gun. This isn't the first time we've fired guns. Last time was when she was first hired at the zoo; we rented a gun at a range and shot targets. This was to prepare her for the dreadful day a dangerous animal might escape. Today she's like a kid with a shiny new toy. Maybe the last time we shot was under bleaker circumstances, but why would this be a happier one? I don't question her. I'm just happy to see her happy.

Sunday October 13, 2019
It's a beautiful day. The pool is 88 degrees, the weather is about 78, which is nice, but it makes you want to stay under the water, allowing it to swallow you like a cozy blanket. We frolic in the pool, toss the ball for the dogs, and grill up some food. We even dine Italian aperitivo style with salami and wine, as we watch the sun set.
Monday October 14, 2019
I wake from my wine coma around 3 a.m. Deanna is not in bed with me. I call out for her, but she doesn't answer. I get up and cautiously make my way through the house. Again noise emits from the game room. I follow the noise and find the slider open. Coming from outside is what sounds like a chisel hitting a rock.
I run back into Deanna's office to grab my phone. I flip on the camera light and follow the chisel sounds. As I approach the pool, I hear the noise coming from the deck. Crap, the deck is still broken; what if Deanna fell off? I rush to the rail.
I peer over the broken deck and find Deanna at the bottom of the hill. She has a shovel in her hand and has dug several holes. I call out to her. She doesn't react.
Deanna digging a hole at the bottom of the hill in the middle of the night.
I hurry down the hill and ask her what she is doing. Gravely, her eyes pierce right through me. She laughs a deep, hushed, "Heh. Heh. Heh." I feel my spine collapse.
I flip off the camera and gingerly approach her. She appears to be sleepwalking again. I reach for the shovel, and she lets it go without resistance. I set it down, then take her by the shoulders and guide her back to bed. She eases in and lies down with no problems. Thankfully, she doesn't wake and scream at me.
Tuesday October 15, 2019
Deanna has no recollection of digging last night. She denies it and claims I'm messing with her. I show her the footage, and she insists it's not real. I assure her the video is not fake. She begins clicking around and opening the backed up surveillance footage on the computer.
I decide that between Juan's fall and Deanna's digging that I should move a couple of the wireless security cameras down to the bottom of the hill.
While tackling the job, I pass by my office a few times to grab tools and occasionally I pop in to check the camera feed. I wonder when Deanna will come across the sheet flutter or the shadow footage. She remains focused on the computer, poking through clips. She stops me to ask a question. I'm expecting to have a conversation over the unexplainable footage, but instead she asks me about the file name.
I explain to her that I had turned off the ugly on-screen security date and file stamp that superimposes into the camera footage. I wanted a cleaner, timeless video file to use in VLOGS. On-screen stamps aren't necessary anyway because the system names the recorded files with a timestamp. For example CH15-1014-010800_011059: CH15 is CHannel 15 or Camera 15, -1014 is October 14th, -010800_011059 is the recorded time from 1:08 a.m. to 1:10 and 59 seconds. The DVR breaks files into three-minute chunks.
Deanna has the footage from the ceiling fan fall and her praying open on the computer. She points out that both of these clips happened on different days, but in the same 010800_011059 time-slot.
I tease her about it being creepy and that we should have an exorcism at 1:08 a.m. I even invoke a Jim Carrey impression from Ace Ventura that we should "Exorcise the demons." Deanna is against it, but I lose myself in what was suppose to be a light-hearted joke.
I sorta feel like I want to challenge faith. The shadow, the sheets, doors, cups, and Deanna's moods, is there a reason for it? Is it real? I want proof or no proof. I'm in this weird borderline. I wonder if I give in to Deanna's belief and commit that maybe we can finally put this stuff to rest.
I convince Deanna to stand at the foot of our waterbed at 1:08 a.m. She nervously holds the Portate cross charm from around her neck. I grab Christina's Bible and prepare to chant.
Surveillance Footage capture of Deanna and Vince in their bedroom. Vince hold the bible up as Deanna holds the Portate cross.
Deanna begs me not to do this. She suggests we hire a priest.
I retort, "A virgin! This is not a job for a virgin! Look, I've seen The Exorcist like a hundred times. I have a Bible. I totally got this."
I call for the ghost to move something, to do something, anything. Nothing happens, except Deanna gets woozy. I attribute it to her being dramatic. I demand the ghost move the door. Deanna claims something is there; I seize that moment and begin the chant from The Exorcist:
I cast you out, ghostly spirit!
In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
It is He who commands you!
Be gone from this house.
In the name of the Father. In the name of the Son.
In the name of the Holy Spirit.
It is the power of Christ that compels you.
I continue to chant, "It is the power of Christ that compels you!"
Suddenly Deanna's arms fall to her sides, her palms open, fingers outstretch. She exhales a loud, guttural, "Get outta my house!" She collapses to the ground. I'm stunned.
I drop the Bible and rush to her. I'm frantic; she's unresponsive. I shake her but she doesn't move. I scramble to get my phone from the tripod to call for help. With a sudden loud, prolonged gasp for air, Deanna wakes with a deep inhale. Relieved, I grab for her, "Oh God. Oh thank God."

The Hunt

Wednesday October 16, 2019
I visit the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder office to do a property search. I'm able to print out a list of the previous owners of my house.
I immediately note on the list that the people who owned my house before me, the ones who were foreclosed on, have the last name Spottiswoode. That doesn't sound Mexican at all, but I'm thankful it isn't a generic John Smith. The name is unique enough that I figure I should be able to track them down on the Internet.
I force Deanna to sleep on the couch in my office. I want to be able to keep an eye on her while I search online. She doesn't want to sleep on our waterbed and I don't want to sleep in her office anymore. That leaves my office. The dogs even come in to sleep with us. I thought they preferred the master bedroom because that's where they've always slept, but now I wonder if they were just avoiding Deanna's office?
I search the Internet until 2:30 in the morning. The even sound of Deanna's breathing fills the air. I haven't heard any other noises, so I decide it's time to crash. I tuck Deanna in on the couch, and toss a pillow on the floor in front of her; this way I can block her if she gets up to dig.
About a half an hour later, I wake to the blaring house alarm. Deanna is not on the couch. I call for her and get no answer. The dogs are still with me. I get up and scramble for a camera monopod to defend myself against an intruder. My phone rings. I already know it's going to be the alarm company. I give them the verbal pass-code, and they tell me the alarm triggered because the wrong disarm code was entered. They're concerned that someone might be in the house.
I make my way to the alarm panel, and explain that I had changed the disarm code recently and my wife didn't know the new code. I key in the correct code and tell them all is fine and not to send the police. I hang up and go searching for Deanna. Naturally, I check the game room slider first and there she is, standing in front of the closed door. She's sleepwalking again. I guide her back to my office couch.
Sunday October 20, 2019
Jackpot! I finally tracked down a work address and phone number for Mr. Steve Spottiswoode. I'm going to pay him a visit tomorrow.
Over the last several days, I've really been editing my journals to assemble a clear record of the events. I've been able to cross-reference emails with photo dates and times on my phone to reconstruct a clearer picture of what's transpired.
I've also been backing up the security camera drives and gathering the footage on a timeline. Deanna is right; things seem to happen at eight after one in the morning. I still have a bunch of footage to sift through, but what I've seen so far makes me think I might be able to assemble all this into a comprehensive documentary.

2020.09.08 06:12 spraypraythrowaway A 31 year old incel spills his guts. I just want to be loved.

I am a 31 year old white American male. I came from an ordinary upper-middle class suburban background and got a bachelor's degree at a large state university, after which I served for 6 years in the Marine Corps. I was an outside sales rep/account manager for a large chemical company in the Los Angeles area. Currently, I'm employed earning $84K/year at a small, but highly-regarded management consulting firm. I am physically fit and well-presented. I have a good relationship with my family who lives less than an hour away. I've neither hit nor threatened nor stalked any woman in any way. My criminal record is negligible (underage drinking, speeding tickets, etfc). Besides being generally "quirky", I suffer from ADD & mild depression, both of which are well managed through prescribed medication.
I live on my own in a spacious 2-bedroom apartment near a major American city. I'm really into scuba diving, and spend many a weekend exploring the various shipwrecks off NJ. I've also gone as far as NC and the Red Sea in the Middle East in search of shipwrecks. Wreck diving is just kind of my thing. I also train 3-4 days a week in Thai Boxing at a local gym, which I love not only for the exercise but also as the social outlet.
I have a pretty closely knit group of friends in my immediate area. I also have two other, non-overlapping groups of friends related to diving and Muay Thai. Beyond these friend groups, I am involved in a couple of local charity efforts which require several hours per month each. So I have no shortage of connections to my community. I might lay at home out of boredom on any given Saturday but, when I do, it's not for lack of anyone to hang out with.
And yet, I am 31 years old, and I have only had one girlfriend. It lasted 2 months, while I was living in Los Angeles (2015-2017). That is literally it. Years upon years of trying to be somebody's boyfriend, leveraging everything from PUA systems to "just be yourself" and everything in between, this is all I've attained. And so briefly, too. She was lovely, and beautiful, but after two months she simply couldn't stand me anymore (too much being myself, of that I'm sure). I have not known a woman's touch, of any sort, since.
And so I am alone. Very alone. It's been 3 years this month since the last time I had sex...but sex barely interests me anymore. What I want is intimacy. Fortunately, however, being alone this long has rendered me exceedingly numb. I am ossified, of sorts: the pangs of 'feels' that used to hit me right the chest seldomdo, anymore. It's like an emotional armor I've developed. I am grateful for this, otherwise every wedding or "bring the spouses and kids" company event would be a veritable minefield of feels. But this armor does not at a; allay my desire for that very human need: that of a partner.
I'm sad, folks. I'm really, really, sad. I feel like I've done everything a man is supposed to do in life up to this point. I found a professional path for myself, served my country both inside America and overseas, I'm a smart guy who pursues intellectual hobbies while also helping mentor younger kids. Shit, I even foster cats....I have 2-3 cats living at my apartment at any given time. Not to mention my reserves to a local fast water rescue / dive recovery unit, which helps people caught in cash running waters or recovering those who have drowned.
After all this, at age 31, I can't get a date. I've poured hundreds of dollars into all these dating apps and I have nothing but tears to show for it. Most, never want to meet. Of those that to (and of which I am frequently, but not always, smitten) they inevitably ghost. These various apps have become toxic to me, just as they are increasingly seen as my only asset.
I'm lost and alone, friends. I'm so tired of being like this. I want a girlfriend, and eventually a wife and a family. I honestly do not how much farther I can go on.
